Re: What is our best line up?
Here's my guess for this years GF, but we all understand that is impossible to have all available.
Jones is a great fit as a sub as he can have an immediate impact with his speed and grit, especially if the heat is out of the game.
Maybe it is one tall, short if you get my drift.
B. Webster Howard Wilkie
HB. Sinclair Battle NWM
C. Wood Crouch Byrnes
HF. Hill Membrey Owens
F. Gresham King Higgins
R. Marshall Steele Ross
INT. Clark Windhager Billings Phillipou
Sub: Jones
EMG: Stocker Butler Caminiti Bytel Cordy Paton Coffield

Re: What is our best line up?
Best line up? Depends on who we are playing, who is fit, who is on song with game plan, team rules, and with the ball that week/month. (throw in a sprinkle of social engineering

Pretty close to this.
Windhager to Sub, Jones out, Butler in.

Re: What is our best line up?
Great try D.B.. Excellent effort to name a 23, very easy to say player X should be in without dropping player Y. Hard exercise in reality...a reasonable list if all fit.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Fri 05 May 2023 6:42pm Here's my guess for this years GF, but we all understand that is impossible to have all available.

At present I'd have Stocker before Webster. I'd also have Butler for Windhager (Windy has a bit to learn I believe).
Sub is out of Bytel, Paton, Coffield...20 weeks from a GF, I'd go for the more versatile, The Coff!
P.S.: Would not be surprised if Caminiti nudges Membrey from a spot.

Re: What is our best line up?
We need 2 tall forwards.. I like the King & Caminiti combination, with Membrey the hybrid.
That would release Owens to the midfield.
Webster is a lock when fit, as is Billings…agree Jones would be a handy sub but he’s never fit (in the rehab group yet again today).

Re: What is our best line up?
Agree. Looking at DB Cooper’s team I would only make the following changes.
Billings to the wing, Butler to the bench , Byrnes out.
Stocker to the bench as reserve back, Windhager to sub.Jones out.
Would be great if we could get that 23 all fit and firing .

Re: What is our best line up?
I agree Saintmike65. Caminiti and King, with Membrey the medium tall. Owens 50/50 on ball/forward swapping with Gresham.
Webster for Paton
Billings for Byrnes ( although Byrnes does a lot of hard unrewarded running that helps us defensively)

Who doesn’t have him in their best 22?

Re: What is our best line up?
You have a long memory if you can remember Billings best form. 4 years ago now. For mine he has to wait his turn and prove himself all over again.
As things stand right now I wouldn’t have him in our best 22, which, it appears Ross agrees with me. He’ll get his opportunity to prove people wrong though.

Re: What is our best line up?
I'd play Jack Bytel instead of Crouch in DB's line up (unpopular but just give the kid an opportunity for 5-6 games and he'll rip it up)
I'd leave Ronnie in the team ahead of JB.
One of either Billings or Hill for the half forward role, but not both!
I like what I saw with Caminiti. Very raw but he's the new 'Prospect'
Also unpopular; I'd play Butler and have Higgins as the emergency.
Snags doesn't provide as much pressure as Buttsy and imo, Higgins tries to play like a tall.
We need the three marking options so The Hammer and Skunk play or if one of these guys is injured we play Coops
Cordy plays only if one of our tall defenders is injured.
What bothers me about these threads ("What is our best line up?") and other exercises where you are trying to make assumptions, is that you are putting preconceived ideas into your head about who should be in the team. It's a long season. When you utilise the whole list and you manage the workload it gives the St Kilda Football club the best chance of competing with the very best opposition teams at the pointy end of the year.
It may upset 1 or 2 players who don't get to play all 22 games of home and away to earn their bonus but so what. The whole reason for the existence of the football club is to compete in finals and hopefully get an opportunity to play off deep into September
If we are playing favourites and if we think a player is a lock for 22 games of home and away regardless of form or who we are playing - and we still expect that player to be in peak form in September - we are stuffed!!
