What's up with Phillipou?
Sincs and Hilly both 492 metres gained.
Phillipou -5 metres!
that is MINUS 5 metres!
He looked overwhelmed.
Had the skill to get his hands on it but just bamboozled in the crusher.
So has he lost that confidence? doesn't have the fitness?
Surely, it is Sandy time for a rest?

Nothing wrong with him except he’s a green kid. Give him a couple of seasons, probably including some time at Sandringham.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
He has played more games that he probably should have this season as a first year player.
If anyone needed to be rested it was probably him and not Seb Ross.
Same goes for Caminiti, needs a spell at Sandringham, not because he has done anything wrong, but because his body hasn't grown into the game yet.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

He needs to learn a role. He can not be the big bodied mid we were hoping for because he is glacier slow. He could become a key forward but will need to build strength to do that. He needs to play at Sandy and have a big summer in the gym to get up for next season.

Just young and inexperienced.
Shown that he’ll one day be a gun, prob due for an extended run in the 2s tho now.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
I think he’s tracking along nicely
Obviously he comes in and out of games but that’s to be expected… I like his competitiveness and decisiveness with the ball.
He’ll be okay. Don’t push those expectations too high for now

If the rezzies are good enough for Windhager (for approx ten weeks) and Bytel (practically permanently) then they're good enough for Phillipou and Caminiti.

At a well run club that sounds fine but at the Aints, F*** knows what the thinking is.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jun 2023 12:52am If the rezzies are good enough for Windhager (for approx ten weeks) and Bytel (practically permanently) then they're good enough for Phillipou and Caminiti.
The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
Maybe they keep picking him to give him a taste of reality? A humility crash course?
Certainly a great talent. As I said, he got to the right places, got his hands on it, but was swamped.
Sure, he'll be right, eventually.

What's wrong with you people? Anyone would think it's somehow 'your' footy club
Didn't you realise that RTB has his own rules and he runs the show now?

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
If we didn’t hand 10 senior players on the injured list it would be ok to give him a spell.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
He'll turn 19 after Christmas.
Youngest player in the competition.
He's playing half forward, which is a tough role
He's clearly fatigued, which happens to a lot of first year players around mid season.
He is not quick
Dustin Martin played 3 seasons in a forward pocket, in and out of the team, before moving to midfield.
Lenny hayes was in and out of the team and played a lot at half forward for his first couple of seasons
Leigh Montagna played his first year in the seconds and had just moderate output in his first 20 games
Nick Dal Santo played his first year in the seconds
There are many other examples
Phillipou has talent and has effort. He needs two more preseasons of hard running and gym work before we'll see the best of him

Doesn’t kick the footy enough - always looks to handball
He needed a spell 8 weeks ago - mismanaged

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
Think there was a passage of play where he kicked it and was smothered 2 or 3 times in a row.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
Has already shown he'll be a good player at this level but as many have said, he (along with Byrnes, Caminiti) should've been rested or gone back to Sandy for a couple of weeks at least a month ago.
Yes we have injuries and yes we dont have many knocking the door down but their diminishing returns are hurting the team atm..
For their own good they should be rotated with the likes of Sharman, Connolly and Cordy. Even if its just a couple of weeks.

Re: What's up with Phillipou?
In defense of the kid.
There were plenty of handballs to a player running past.
He had 2 marks, a clearance, and 6 contested possessions - MG doesn't tell the whole story. As long as someone gains the meters. He is running to where the ball is going to be and competing, not cheap possessions from a handoff.
What's lacking is 1 tackle, and maybe some confidence to go long by foot.
If he had have bombed his 2 marks forward with 50m kicks he'd have 100m gained, do we prefer that?
