Half time, 40 points to 42,
Billings 16 possessions 1 goal
Bytel 15 possessions 2 goals
Highmore 13 possessions.
Jones ...SFA, McKenzie.....ditto.
Oh, and Jack Peris snapped a nice goal.

Re: Sandy v Lions
Thoughts from the first half of the VFL.
*Billings imo should either come in got Gresham or be the sub next week
*Bytel deserves a game, dominant around the clearance and kicking goals
*M Heath is our future ruckman. Will work well with Marshall with both spending time forward- doesn't look to have the tank for AFL yet. Love his aggression.
*Peris does nice things when he is in the play but isn't in it enough
*Connolly could become a decent midfielder but needs to find the ball more
*Highmore turns the ball over too much and pads his stats with kick outs
*Cordy doesn't look AFL fit
*McKenzie needs a few games
*Jones good in patches, brings line breaking and explosiveness we lack- hope he can get back to AFL in a few weeks
*Keeler has some very exciting traits- Raw

So Billings and Bytel a chance
Is it too early to blood Max Heath?

Re: Sandy v Lions
I don't think Heath covers the ground well enough for AFL just yet.
And yep if it was me based on that half of footy.
One of the below scenarios.
Scenario 1
Out: Byrnes, Gresham
In: Bytel, Billings
Sub: Gresham
Scenario 2
Out:Byrnes, Pou
In: Bytel, Billings
Sub:Sharman
Scenario 3
Out: Byrnes
In: Bytel
Sub: Billings

Re: Sandy v Lions
Howard should finish his career at Sandy or f*** off for good. Billings needs to play for Gresham. Bytel also needs to come into the Saints team.

Re: Sandy v Lions
3/4 time sandy by 23 points
Billings leading possession winner with 22 possessions and 3 goals
Bytel 19 possessions and 2 goals
Peris " the boy can play" with 2 goals
Highmore steady job down back.
Jones coming into the game that quarter.
Ollie kicked his first goal.
Milne in best three
brians are 9 wins and one loss so far this year and have the wind in the last quarter.

Re: Sandy v Lions
I'm actually pretty pleased. Watching the twos the following to me all have the ability or potential to play AFL level. Not all right now but still.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jun 2023 1:55pm Thanks for the update..

Billings
Jones
McKenzie
Heath
Keeler
Horton
Bytel
Connolly
Peris
That's a reasonable list- typically we haven't had this many playing.

Cruel....f****** draw.
12.7.79 to 11.13.79 Bytel 26 possessions. Billings...dropped off in the last ...23 possessions....Jones 14, McKenzie 11.
Sandy are just like the Saints. Don't know how to win.

Re: Sandy v Lions
Appalling last quarter.
Played almost exclusively in the Lions' forward 50.
Lucky to get away with a draw.

Milne would be worth a shot on the saints list. Good VFL footballer at this stage but getting better.

Re: Sandy v Lions
Billings only played 5 mins of the last Q
Jones, McKenzie on limited game time
Best
Bytel, Campbell, Billings, Cordy, Milne, Peris
It’s funny how the VFL side looks better when a few senior players come back
Bachelor couldn’t coach a pig to be dirty - the position of defenders in the second quarter with a 4 goal breeze was ridiculous
Brisbane kicking cost them the game
Bytel would be a great pick up by another club, as would Billings
Ross did not play at all - ridiculous

Re: Sandy v Lions
Hmmm...
With the breeze...Sandy 9.4 v Bris 9.12
Against...Sandy 3.3 v Bris 3.1
If Brisbane converted better when using the breeze, they would have smashed us.
Looks like we were lucky to get a draw...But only scoring 0.1 in the last wouldn't have helped us.

I don't see how any players returning to senior footy after playing there can then step up to AFL standard. I don't see it at all.

Re: Sandy v Lions
Bytel clearly could play AFL
Billings has performed at AFL level, as has Jones and McKenzie
Some others have some potential but are young
Keeler, Hotton, Peris, Heath
Some are obvious back ups
Highmore, Campbell, Cordy

Re: Sandy v Lions
The important thing is getting Jones,DMac and Billings through with a game under their belt and the continuing development of the young guys.
One year will be our year
Re: Sandy v Lions
No mention of Adams, who I thought played well especially given the conditions and the best of our KPP young resources (so Adams, Heath, Keeler and Van Es, all struggling in the conditions apart from Adams).
Peris showed a bit, Billings earlier and Bytel honest.
Cordy took some grabs in the last quarter when Brisbane had the howling wind.
From TV coverage, you can not tell the game time put into the likes of Billings, Jones and McKenzie but I would imagine restricted.
It was not the result but that the predetermined game time was put into these returning players, Jones and McKenzie in their first appearances for 2023.
And others gained more experience.

Re: Sandy v Lions
How many kicks did Pooh get.
NONE, ZERO, but that was playing for St Kilda on Friday when he should have been playing for Sandringham today.
Consequently Bytel got no kicks on Friday.
Pooh isn't ready for AFL yet, neither is Heath.
But Heath would have to be of greater value than Pooh.

SURELY he finally gets a game next week??
