If what Marshall brings in an extra midfielder, and you could hatch a plan to replace him as a RUCKMAN with a leaping ruckman and convince PARISH to come and secure 5 picks inside 44, you at least have a look.

Re: Our midfield
5 draft picks inside 44 would. Marshall is 28 and we are one serious injury away from disaster.
I dont want to trade Marshall but none else could help us improve our current draft pick array, not really effect our ruck work and improve our actual midfield stocks.
Heath is coming, Keeler has potential and TDK at 24 with Campbell in reserve is no different.
Would you trade Grundy?

Re: Our midfield
What the guarantee 5 draft picks inside 50 improves your list
2014
Pick 1 P McCartin
Pick 21 H Goddard
Pick 22 D McKenzie
Pick 41 J Lonie
Picks are only WHAT you select and what you do with them. Not how many and where you select them.
Rowan Marshall is a gun - why trade out a known gun for an unknown?
Terrible strategy

Heath and Keeler are also unknown
TDK - was dropped twice this year, in favour of Pittonet - is he a gun?

Come back closer to reality and put 5 top 44 draft picks in front of these recruiters and re-think.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jul 2023 2:23pm What the guarantee 5 draft picks inside 50 improves your list

If you can live in the moment for a second, tell where Marshall and the current top 5 midfielders take us next year and then following 3 years when they are all over 30 and due for retirement. Windy is going to have to do some improving.
You wouldn't have traded Grundy would you? Terrible strategy, wasn't it. Really hurt Collingwood.

You don't trade quality like Marshall. That would be beyond dumb!

I'm not expecting Marshall to be traded. Give me another way of improving our list though, whining about McCartin fixes nothing.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jul 2023 3:56pm You don't trade quality like Marshall. That would be beyond dumb!
We need improvement in the list or we drop our expectations of being top 4 material in the next 3 years.
Hill, Crouch and Wood all came via trade and are in our best mids but they won't improve. Seb Ross is dependant on a games played clause to be a certainty.
We have explored with Gresh and Paton, no, they won't improve the list.
Clark is ok but hasnt set the world on fire. b
Billings maybe ?????, Mackenzie should just retire. Byrnes????
Would you have traded Grundy?
So, we pin our hopes on Windhager, Owens is yet to play any serious midfield

Re: Our midfield
Improving the list
Delist players not up to it
Trade players you have a surplus of and can get something you need from whether it be picks or players
Nail your draft picks
Make sure development is on point
Get in a free agent for no cost
Retain talent that is required
Continue to find player through SSP and MSD and Rookie draft
You MUST use every mechanism available to you to improve and evolve the list
A not so good strategy is to put all your eggs in one basket and hope they turn out!
Marshall - has 6 seasons left in him
Priority to retain

Re: Our midfield
As far as midfielders go, currently Marshall is one of the better clearance players. The rest are very run of the mill with the exception of Steele, who is having an average year and Sinclair, ho leaves a whole in defensiverebounding when he goes onto the ball but even he had a few turnovers yesterday.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jul 2023 4:15pm Improving the list

Marshall is the only egg in our basket.

Crouch was equal second with Marshall
By the way, Sinclair had 5 inside 50's. Crouch had 1 which turned out be a turnover.
I know how you can make the mistake of thinking it was Brad. Crouch had his name plastered on your t.v screen for the first half as St Kilda's highest possession winner. He had 18 insignificant touches up until that stage.
When the game needed players to stand up and win it for the team Crouch was about 15th in line. Byrnes and Sharman and Webster had more impact.
Name two moments in the last quarter where Crouch was critical or impacted the game to help get us over the line.
Sinclair got 5 inside 50's and 5 score involvements. That's good.
Crouch got 1 inside 50, which you stated, resulted in a turnover. Let's not forget the 6 scoring involvements though.
Sinclair kicked out 5 times. West Coasts pressure was outstanding for half a game. Crouch stood up.
The argument (I know you get this) isn’t Crouch OR Sinclair… it’s both …different mids
How valuable was Crouch’s 16 tackles in a game where even Lyon noted sides were scoring from stoppage????
Did Sinclair get near those numbers? No and you want him delivering to 50
That’s a balanced midfield- that’s what we want
To assume all Crouch’s input was not helpful is not correct
“Yeah….nah””

We released a video talking about Caleb Daniel and how he'd met every challenge in spite of his size. We overlooked him and took Lonie.
To me, Daniel was a no brainer. Knows where the footy is and how to use it well...How we could have used that instead of whatever it was that Lonie gave us.

From hero to devil to hope.
We need towball to tow the midfield against the Demons.

Re: Our midfield
Lonie
Was elite at u18 level
VIC Country MVP and All Aust
At pick 41 to play 90 games and kick 80 goals - you’d almost take that
We wanted a small forward, not a 168cm mid
WB decision to play Daniel at HB - inspired

We most probably would have played Daniel as a small forward and he may have turned out no better than Lonie.

Captain Jack had a stinker, with him and Crouch combining for ZERO touches in the last quarter of a crucial close game.
Inexcusable.

Re: Our midfield
Apparently, Voss was going to sub out Paddy Dow but decided against it as he began racking them up.
Paddy Dow tearing it up in the midfield just demonstrates how poor our midfield currently is.
It’s a big weakness and it might not be fixed for a while yet.

Dow likely cemented his spot on our list for 5 years at a ridiculous wage after today...it's the St Kilda way. Can we at least dump Gresham on them???
