Ins and outs
Hill, Battle and Higgins out.
In Jones, Billings and Cordy

Re: Ins and outs
Seems like for like
Good to see Billings and Jones back. Both essentially playing for their careers now.

Re: Ins and outs
Paton not considered. I think Ross Lyon has seen enough
Byrnes being dropped is no surprise. He has been almost invisible lately.
There was a whisper that Phillipou would be rested and apparently Owens didn't train.
Ross will still need to pass a fitness test before the game, so Byrnes might gets reprieve

Re: Ins and outs
He saw the average display at VFL level the same as I did. Got plenty of it but did nothing with it.
Paton is now pigeon holed as a small defender with no offensive side. A good role player against quality small forwards.
Cameron 1 goal (a gimme in junk time)
Rankine 2 goals (and we got smashed everywhere else)
Has scalps of Greene, Betts, and more that I'm sure I can't think of right now.
I think he's selected matchup dependent. If opposition has a gun small fwd, he needs to play.

Is there an extended bench?

Maybe the brains trust has seen enough of some players.
Perhaps, if Jones n Billings weren't ready yet, Byrnes would've stayed in?
So now Jones+Billings are getting a chance to prove they belong.
They need to make the most of it.
Can they adjust to the pace of AFL compared to VFL?

Re: Ins and outs
Higgins might be a back injury from a moment on the edge of the goal square in the third quarter last week. In the previous game his knee was strapped. Could be either. He's had back issues before.

It's effectively round 1 for Jones and Billings.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 7:45pm

Keen to see how they fit in the team, and respond to their criticisms.

Re: Ins and outs
Impinged by injury is a reality, not a criticism. Had these two been fully fit all year we'd be a better side this year. Hopefully, they can impact and stay healthy form2 monthsOtiman wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 7:48pmIt's effectively round 1 for Jones and Billings.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 7:45pm

Re: Ins and outs
Interesting. I’m the opposite. Regardless of whether we win or not all of this makes sense.
Hill, Battle and Higgins out injured. Can’t do anything about that. Byrnes dropped after a sustained patch of mediocre form.
Cordy in good form at Sandy in like for like with Battle. Gets an opportunity to make a statement,
Jones comes in for Byrnes… playing for his career and we know Zac can play albeit his durability is a major concern. Zac demanded the spot through his work at Sandy.
Cooper comes in for Higgins as a marking forward more tall than small… rewarded for knocking on the door.
Billings replaces Hill as a winger. Pbly more forced than earned but he has some runs on the board. Billings and Coops interchangeable to a degree.
I like it though obviously most of these changes are forced

Re: Ins and outs
I guess Clark is on standby for Ross. I would like to see Peris given the sub role.
Looking at both sides INs & each side's recent form. I am surprised the odds are not $1.90 a piece. We are a very good chance Saturday night to spit in their cucumber sandwiches.

Re: Ins and outs
Hill will hurt, has been good. Higgins and Byrnes out I’m ok with.
Excited to see Billings back, and hope Jones can get thru a game!
Not that’s it overly matters IMO, think the Dees have us covered all over the ground

I think a fully fit Clark would be a huge addition to this team. We’ve really missed his class. Personally… if he’s proper fit (which he’s pbly not otherwise he’d be straight in)… I’d pbly have Coops into the forward line and rest Pou for a week and move Clark to the bench/replace Ross

Re: Ins and outs
Fair call. Hill is a huge loss and one we can’t cover. Hopefully Billings can turn back the clock a littleSaintPav wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 9:18pmGood points.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 8:00pmInteresting. I’m the opposite. Regardless of whether we win or not all of this makes sense.

Agreed, he is best as lock down small defender. Webster has more strings to his bow , and is just as good at the lockdown.

Re: Ins and outs
Good changes.
Cordy gets a go in his natural defensive position.
Billing’s has bided his time. I’ve been a critic but I’m happy for him and hope he does well.
Jones will add something different (if he stays fit). Has mongrel and a good breakway speed from packs.
I haven’t seen enough from Sharman yet, but he’s fit and I guess that’s why he gets the nod over a Clark who’s returning to fitness.
