Tim Membrey’s game

Post: # 2026503Post skeptic »

10 disposals, 9 kicks, 1 handball, 1 tackle, 8 marks and a return of 0.1

Not the biggest night but I thought he was quite a handful in the first half and did a great job in the first half organising the forward line and opening up space King.
The combination of King, Membrey and Coops feels pretty solid to me… disrespect any one of them at your own peril.

I saw him less in the second half and it would have been nice for him to get on the scoreboard more prominently… but all in all, I reckon we’re a much better team with him in it.

Hope he’s not the rumoured mystery beloved player that RTB is wanting to cut. He’s a good player and his leadership is is vital IMO.

I appreciate the sentiments skeptic but if he's the "beloved player" I'll be relieved.

A pre season into Caminiti and he will go past him.

Moves it quicker, 7cm taller, better defensively, just as good a mark.

I thought Membrey played an important role as a foil for King. Didn’t impact the scoreboard but did a fair bit of useful bollocking and linkage work, and you have to put a good player on him.

Forward line is working for now, so I don’t see an imminent return for Caminiti, barring injury. However, his time will come.

Wonder if Tim had a full preseason could he be deployed on a wing in a Mason Wood role?

Has always been a decent runner, decent at ground level, very good overhead and chopping off in defence, and dangerous forward.

His endurance would be the query.
I also think this role could be filled by Coffield if he can get fit enough.
The tall winger who can defend in the air and catch it in attack is a potential weapon.

Hill still runs the lines like regardless of whether he plays wing or high half forward.

Looks a bit rusty still, and it feels like his once dead-eye goal kicking has fallen off the last few seasons

Just needs game time.

Thinking about this more today…

I feel like what stands out to a degree is that it feels like even if Membrey himself isn’t hitting the scoreboard a lot… the forward line as a whole seems like it functions a lot better with him there

King had 4 shots and a few miracle plays that didn’t trouble the scorers

Coops kicked two and could have had a third

Butler kicked 2.1 and Butler 2.3 (could have iced the game earlier)

Gresh was 0.2 and wasteful

Marshal should have had another, Mason missed a shot he should have kicked

All in all… kicking for goal was not great but the forward line as a whole functioned really well

Same as Cordy earlier in the season.

I agree that Membrey had a reasonably good game last night and the forward line was better organised with him in it. As in previous seasons Membrey pesented well along the wings and is not far off being back at his best. The goals will come as he plays more games.

Cooper Sharman (hello Vortex!) is playing a very good role playing on the opposition's best defenders (notably his excellent job on Sicily a few weeks ago) which offers extra space for King and has a bit of a X factor about him flying for the contested mark, not a bad kick either.

Membrey getting high up on the wings certainly opens up space for King.

I wonder when his opponent will drop off him to double team King?

Sharman also making the defenders pay him some attention and not drop off him to focus on King.

Nice when Sinclair, NWM and Hill deliver into F50 as they look to hit up an option instead of bomb it on Kings head.

Yep. I think I can happily concede that he was better than I gave him credit for at the time
