Re: Hayes v sharman
Different type of players and a very difficult night for forwards from both teams tonight.
Hayes needs more miles in his legs but he really had a good second half. Coop never got into it, symptomatic of players w8th a tendency to play from behind.
If it came to a crunch Jack has more upside because of his strength and versatility.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Love Coops but Hayes is more of a finals prospect at this stage of their careers. Bigger body and can give Roma a chop out rather than throwing poor old Mitch Owens into the ruck. Jack got better as the game went on. Will be better for the run.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Hard to say who comes out for King.
Hayes looked more dangerous but Sharman has played more roles through the year.
Membrey has stamped his name on a spot with his game today.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Payne & Andrew’s monstered Hayes and Sharman today, too big and too strong, consistently muscled out of the contest.
Anyone who thinks we play better without Max King needs to watch a replay of this game and what happened when we dump kicked bombs into the forward line.
At least King brings it to ground if he doesn’t catch it.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Funny you mention versatility, I reckon Sharman has heaps more than Hayes (not a knock on Hayes). Can play back, wing, forward, as evidenced by his many sub starts this year a bit of a utility player.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sat 26 Aug 2023 9:47pm Different type of players and a very difficult night for forwards from both teams tonight.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Coops can play back, foward and wing, for sure. Unfortunately he is yet to consistently prove he is a lock in any of the, which is why he makes a good sub.shrodes wrote: ↑Sat 26 Aug 2023 10:52pmFunny you mention versatility, I reckon Sharman has heaps more than Hayes (not a knock on Hayes). Hayes has played a lot more football at senior level in the SANFL and is built like a slightly scaled-down version of Marshall and much more backable when kicking for goal. He won't get any smaller as the game wears on.

Re: Hayes v sharman
I agree I would like to see Hayes hold his spot. Sharman has done nothing wrong, I just see Hayes as being a match winner if things click for him. Maybe Sharman can be the sub?
Clark out for Ross.
Higgins out for Byrnes.
Sharman (sub) for King.

Re: Hayes v sharman
Yes, agree. Gives us two key-position-sized key forwards for one thing and Hayes adds some physicality,
I like Sharman and think he is a good long-term prospect, but he might miss for team balance. He and Membrey are probably both going for the third tall role.
Will be interesting to find out how Roscoe and the brains trust see it on a very interesting selection night Thursday week.

Re: Hayes v sharman
I think went in to this game with 1 tall too many. When Byrnes came on, a hard running midfielder, the game changed.
We were outnumbered around the ball in the first half..
We have 2 hybrid tall mid/3rd tall forwards who compete in the air in Owens and the Pou. Having Sharman + Hayes+Membreyas well as 3 talls down back, i think we dont need them all...
I would bring in King for Hayes, and drop Sharman to the sub role next game, adding another runner, presumably Seb Ross

Re: Hayes v sharman
For a key position, a good KPP is better than a utility player.
Playing purely as a forward, I prefer Caminiti to either Hayes or Sharman.
So I reckon it’s a choice between three players to play alongside King and Membrey. Won’t be an easy choice. Hayes probably gets the nod because he’s more seasoned. I’d like Caminiti because he goes the hardest.

I think Hayes is built for finals, strong, tough and leaves nothing out on the field.

Re: Hayes v sharman
It's a bit awkward for me to even enter this thread but I'll start off by saying if you know a bit about the game then it's not even a discussion point let alone a dedicated thread.
I'll also refrain from saying "I told you so", but as much as I think Sharman is a really nice guy and he's got a nice hair cut and I like how he can attempt mark of the century every 20th game or so and can kick straight on the odd occasion he actually takes an actual mark, he's very VFL and most likely will never develop into a GF type.
I dunno though, maybe there are some who don't know much about the intricacies of the game and need a bigger sample size, I respect that.

Wrong question
Sharman v Hayes v Pooh
Only 2 get to play.

I would only play 1 of those.
And it would be Hayes as a fwd/ruck
Phillipou and Sharman out
Billings and King in

Re: Hayes v sharman
I'd only go King in for Sharman.
I think Billings has played his last game for us and might as well give Pou a finals game as he's earned it in respect of he's been undroppable all year and it would be a weird non compliance with selection integrity and possibly be seen as mean spirited by Lyon to drop him for the final

Phillipou last 4 games
8p
14p
7p
11p
If another player had that output we’d be screaming bloody murder.

agreed BM; just the occasional flash of brilliance not enough to justify a finals spot. He's still a kid

Re: Hayes v sharman
I totally agree but he's one of Lyons undroppables, you know thats how Lyons rolls with certain players, always has.
Re: Hayes v sharman
Hayes must play.
King a straight swap for Sharman.
Byrnes stays sub as gives them a lot of run when he comes on.
Clark spot doubtful and depends if prepared to risk Ross.
