Just looking at the stats…
Bonner - 17 turnovers. That’s got to be a record

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Marshall was poor after about quarter time I think. It was always a hard ask going up against both Draper and Goldy.
Perplexing putting Owens in the ruck just for him to look at the Bombers ruck go up and tap it down and try to rove it. Of course we got belted in the middle. You have Caminiti in so why try him in for a chop out?
Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Tom Campbell has to play. Just ridiculous having Owens as 2nd ruck.

Until Lyon realises being 1 point up is different to being 50 points up we are doomed.
Need to build a lead to defend or we will defend the indefensible.

Riley Bonner
Over 1000 mtrs gained. 17 turnovers. Probably equals out... BUT....and this is a huge BUT!!
Nearly every ground contest was a win to his opponent. Every time there's a loose ball he will NOT put hid head over it. He will not take a clean posession so we can at least get a stoppage.
If we want a player who can kick it long, bring in Arie Schoenmaker

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
No doubt he was out coached
Pressed too high and lost structure in front of the ball
Dumb kicks and kicks down the line out of defence - to MacKay
Bonner did 3 in a row

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Forward line was a shambles today and we weren't able to cover for the guys that went out.
We just had nothing down forward and I question the decision to sub Sharman out - he was having a stinker but could have been handy in the last quarter, just nobody able to take a mark in the forward 50.
Really gutted with the result but it is difficult to cover when you've got 9 or 10 of your starting line up out.

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
God damn it. Watched it live and last qtr we were done. No path out of our fifty except for kick and hope and our rare chances we squandered. For the Pete sake we need to kick straight. Another less than 50/50 shots on goal. And why all the handballs? 5 handballs to go 6 metres and still be under pressure?
We had our chance and shoulda coulda woulda won but didn’t. Well done bombers for never giving up. Our guys need to be better.

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Game lost in part at the selection table by Lyon and the match ups. Can't play Sharman, Membrey and Caminiti in the same team. All 3 are slow, one-dimensional players, two of them far too slow for the modern game and their second efforts are non-existent.
If a Port Adelaide reject in Bonner can get such an important role in this club's starting line-up, then it truly shows where we are at and for the life of me, I don't understand what Lyon sees in him and what his thinking is in actually developing talent to challenge for a flag.
Incredibly disappointing or more to the point, humiliating loss.
Painful and embarrassing to watch.

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Yeah
Because Tom Campbell is an AFL standard ruck
That’s why he’s played 50 games in 12 years at 3 clubs
He’s there in case Marshall gets injured - not to play with him

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
I thought RMA was well on top first half but was worn out
Campbell as the sub would have been my choice as sub, kept Roma on but give him a break even sat him forward.
We lost that game.

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
I'd almost be tempted to bring Max Heath in to help out Marshall - served a fair apprenticeship and he's a goal kicker as well. Let's see how he goes tomorrow for Sandy, also seeing if Arie can back up his performance last week.
Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Then play Heath. But Owens cannot ruck and we got smashed when he did.

Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers
Scollop… thanks for validating this. I will never say a bad thing about you ever again. I have been saying from the start that Schoenmaker needs to play over Bonner. Kid can atleast affect a spoil and puts his head over the ball.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2024 7:11pm Riley Bonner

What crap.
Had a half strength team and lead all day.
His coaching kept us in the contest.
