But what if Saints actually win? What are you then going to chat about? You'd have to reverse your dreary negative monologues and post something at least leaning towards the positive. Surely not.
😂 what’s this muppet gonna do when we win?
It’s a sad little man syndrome..
Anyhoo I’ll back the coach who hasn’t even finished yr 2 over a turkey who gets his analysis from slobbo in The Herald Sun 🤣

But you don't chat.

Some hope the current regime works given time.
That's not a crime, it's being a genuine supporter.
You want Ross to fail, fine. You have made the point ad nauseum and history is on your side.
But predicting the Saints will not be successful is low hanging fruit.
Can't you just let others try to enjoy the journey without the continual nark?
Perhaps not.

So, what we learn from this site is that the evening TV “News” services have 1 viewer

Noting that media in Australia is the uneducated telling their fellow uneducated what they do not know

The days of Coaches imploring players to run thru brick walls are long since gone - including that there are now line coaches

And, on another matter, who has been named in the Sandringham side for Sunday?

Firing cheap shots at multiple people again keyboard warrior?

Robbo is a student of the game. You may not like him, but most people who understand footy respect that Robbo knows his stuff.

Try and watch as many games as he does and you might learn something…tosser

What the f are you talking about? I want our players to succeed and I want Lyon to succeed. I want our club to succeed

The sentence I highlighted is a lie. I just want him accountable.

Every loss is a whole of club loss and a whole of team loss including coaches. Every win is a whole of club win.

If you don’t agree with some of my opinions, I couldn’t give a rats. That’s your issue.

Yeah, right. You started the thread not so much because you thought Saints were a chance, but how the media would treat a win, as per the thread title and, and as you posted:

“I’m just saying that if we win, that I hope like hell that our players are celebrated rather than the coach getting all the credit”

Another dig at the coach.

Who cares what the headline is? The junk media seem to have soaked into your skull. Your view is they tend to blame the players for a loss, and praise Ross for a win? You hate that, because you do the reverse. Neither is true.

Our preseason form was fine, but after one game we lost Crouch. He hasn't played since.
Clark hasn't played at all.
Two of our best midfielders have played 1 game out of a possible 22 between them. I think it's time we were all a bit more realistic.
We will probably make it close tomorrow. If we can do that much, I will be happy.
Then we play the Eagles in WA and the Suns here, so those two are winnable.
The pressure will be on if and when we don't win tomorrow, but I think when we get more of our run and clearance players all back into the side and match fit of course, we should start winning again.

Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Why would Battle leave the best coached club

All you need is a gun coach and you are assured success?!

Pagan at the Blues
Malthouse at the Blues
Sheedy at the Giants
Parkin at Fitzroy
Walls at Brisbane
Jeans at Richmond
Barrassi at Melbourne
Blight at StK
Roos at Melbourne

Could go on!!!!!

A coach without a list is like a mule with a spinning wheel

That said the overreaction is extreme.

Reality is we're a middle or the road, young side in a competition where if you're off your game by 10% any side can beat any other.

Some early season bad luck has led to a lack of confidence.

Watching the twos, I think it's been underestimated what an impact an out of form/injured Crouch and Clark has had on our year. Our midfield isn't strong to begin with and last year these two + Gresham were contributors at clearances.

Being weak in the midfield has had our half forwards come up to the stoppage to support more so than last year- this has a knock on effect of making it harder for our forwards, particularly our younger bodies which can make us look poor and resort to long bombs deep or wide.

This year isn't what RL was brought in to win. Finals next year, top 4 from 26-29 is the goal.

There will be enough heat coming our clubs way externally which can lead to poor decision making, it'd be great if our own fans didn't pile on.
"top 4 from 26-29 is the goal"   I turned 79 last month   I guess a flag in my lifetime is a L-O-N-G shot???
I’m an ever hopeful septuagenarian too, but rapidly losing faith because of the team’s lack of effort. Lyon is hardly inspiring, or able to pull off creative coaching moves. He states that recent, insipid performances are due to players being too coachable. What a crock!!

Parkin took Fitzroy to a prelim final in 1986. Their equal best finish for about 40 years. For a club run on a shoe string, I reckon you could say he did a pretty good job and leave him off this list.

In fact, Walls at Brisbane also did a great job taking them to their inaugural final series in 96 and 97 - could argue he set them up for Matthews in trying circumstances.

Roos at Dees. He mentored Goodwin who won them a flag. In fact he did exactly what the club wanted him to do. Changed their losing culture and made them more professional.

Some on that list definite failures but not everything is measured by wins and losses. Generally the supporters of each club will tell you. Most at Fitzroy, Lions and Dees wouldn't have rated those coaches as failures.

You're right. You're the expert on footy. Not him

You're the one accountable to your audience and your bosses for sports reporting ...and analysis.

You're the one who's been able to hold down the position as a journalist for over 30 years and as chief football writer for the Herald Sun the last decade

Moods brings up a good point about succession and mentoring

We know that in the last 20 years Clarkson has been the most successful coach (with 4 flags), but his assistants who came through under his tutelage, have also won premierships (5 flags!!)

Simpson, Beveridge and Hardwick x3.

Leigh Matthews, David Parkin, Sheedy and Pagan and Paul Roos also left a legacy with many under them, going on to become successful senior coaches.

Can anyone think of any assistant coach who's worked under Lyon who has continued in their career and gone on to become a senior coach?

Of course it's not Ross' job to develop apprentice or specialist coaches, is it.
And by the way, be cautious of cause and effect linkages. E.G. do great teams inherently contain chaps that are natural coaches and pursue or .......
Will Fly be credited if Pendlebury becomes a good coach.

If it's only 1 player, of course not, but if McRae has a long career and if there's a handful of them...then that's not an accident

Is it a coincidence that Leppitch, Voss, and McRae became senior coaches or that others like Lappin and Luke Power are assistant coaches?

Is it a coincidence that Luke Beveridge, Adam Simpson and Damien Hardwick won premiership and all had been assistants under Clarko ?...and also Leon Cameron (GWS Grand Final 2019).

It's odd isn't with Lyon. He finds it hard to keep good assistants and he hasn't had anyone under him that has become a senior coach. Strange after over 14 years as head coach?

Simon Lloyd lasted a while but is no longer a coach. Sumich was highly rated but had a falling out with Lyon. David Hale and Brett Kirk are still in the system and the only two I can think of who are assistants at clubland

Battle's an unrestricted free agent isn't he? Most players in his position test the market and see what offers might be available, why wouldn't he?
If he gets a good offer, he'd have to consider it. Happens every year. Not in our best 3-4 anyway.

Fancy a supposed supporter hoping 3-4 of our best players want out so RTB might get the sack. Pretty poor. You might be best to take a break as a "supporter" until RTB leaves at the end of his contract.
