thommo in 2008- post retirement

Post: # 434794Post saintbrat »

I know Thommo is retiring from AFL But would / could he be picked up by casey scorpions to enable his experience and obviously still valuable skill to be utilised for a while longer?

Well I suppose so, I'd say he would be.

But more than that, I'd like to see St Kilda fielding a stand-alone VFL team in 2008.

Especially if we are fair dinkum about developing our next generation.

There was some talk not long ago of a return to the reserves competition.

He does a bit of media work, so I wonder if he will go into that area?

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Think he might have a year at Old Melbournians in the Ammos with his brother. Dont think he would have any interest in travelling to Cranbourne to play for Scorpians.

Not a chance.

The 2nd Tier Review has been completed, and the establishment of a separate reserves competition has been well & truly discarded.

I understand that issues of cost and the viability of a senior Victorian competition (outside the AFL clubs) were key issues.

I'm with you 100% on this one.

He is a top notch media performer and would be a perfect fit for radio or TV.

Be a fantastic addition to SEN and is capable of even hosting a slot in the not too distant future IMO.

He will not be playing any footy at all, with anybody. He is looking forward to not playing and has promised his family that he would spend weekends with them.

Thommo deserves a better farewell for his loyal service. A bit biased as our family business (in Brisvegas) sponsors him through the club's player sponsorship programme.

Agree he'd be great in a media role as he is well spoken, knowledgable (can roll out lines from Matt Hardy's teriffic "Satuday Afternoon Fever") and a terrific all round bloke who has put his body (and more) on the line for the club.

Just can't believe he can't get in when we are struggling for consistency and, by all accounts, he is going real well for Casey

Welcome "Givethommoago".
Agree with you about his total committment.
And agree he is a top bloke - met him a few times at those Neil Roberts' lunches - really friendly.

He put in a poor one a few weeks ago - can't remember which game now - and was dropped. Difficult for him as he only plays in bursts off the bench.
His time has come.

But if we make the finals he ABSOLUTELY MUST be in the 22.
His experience, guts and committment would be invaluable in a finals match.

The spammers must be getting cleverer (if there is such a word) - quite an appropriate thread to dig up!! :)

Not so sure now that Andrew will be spending his winter weekends with his family next year, however!!
