With Brisbane and Adelaide playing each other this week and depending who wins we have to hope that we beat Richmond and both of these teams lose to Collingwood (Adelaide @ Telstra) and Brisbane ( Geelong @ GABBA) next week

we rolled over to a pathetic collingwood team missing 4 or 5 of their best, we rolled over to a doggies team that was lame and now we rolled over to an injury ravaged WCE.
we choked, our skills dripped off after 1/2 time, we panicked IMO.
we were good enough for skills, not good enough for discipline.
Bewaire krime, da krimson bolt is comeing to yure nayborhood to smach krime

That sums it up for me also. Stuffed if I'm cheering on any other team than my own! I've booked my flights for Brisbane on the eve of the Grand Final weekend and getting the F*** outta Melbourne!
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
So What have we got planned for September now?
Drink beer then i might drink some more then watch 2 teams i could not give a F*** About play for the thing i know we CAN win and should be giving a shake.

Ah, sounds just like last year & the year before that and the year before that and .............
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.
I am absolute gobsmacked by some of your responses - pathetic to say the least
I know you are all disappointed but sheeesh
In retrospect if we had beaten West Coast today it may have been somewhat of a poisoned chalice as there was a good chance we may have had to have played them in Subi in Week 1
that said if all goes to plan next week we may have a week 1 Melbourne game and with a bit of luck a week 2 Melbourne game.
Adelaide and Brisbane would still have to beat Collingwood and Geelong respectively
I may be clutching at straws but at least I am clutching unlike some you
2 minutes into the 3rd quarter you could see that wasn't going to happen...
This a big point. How obvious it was that the team had decided to take a rest. Then all the other hooror stories start to happen; perceived pressure, poor skills, inaccurate kicking at goal due to playing indirect and then short kicking became a feature.
F*** Why didn't they kick it long? It always is easier to out run the opposition when longer licks are used. Short passes just allow quicker teams to set up their defence again. Geez I get sick of seeing the short game.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Cmon Saints!!!!!
I'm with DH, pass me a straw or 2.
Google Steven Bradbury.
lol... thought you were giving it up
I don't think we deserve to be in the 8 on the season as a whole's performance and on tonight's performance it looks like we don't want to - maybe the boys don't want to make up numbers.... but I still want to do it - I want to get ourselves a fourth consecutive finals appearance...
To get some finals experience into some of our younger blokes would be fantastic this year. Other than that, and perhaps a win against Hawthorn or Collingwood in the first round, I'm not expecting too much.
We simply do not deserve to be up there this year. With our current state of injuries and overall fitness level, we have little chance of making an impact come finals time.
We have played our elimination finals, they were against Freo and WCE.

I agree, we would be making up the numbers, unlike 2004 and 2005 where we were genuine contenders.
interesting to note, on the coverage tonight they said that (before this game) since the mid season break, if you started a whole new ladder, we'd be 3rd behind Geelong and Port
thats why i think if we scrape into the finals, and bring our game from the first quarter tonight, we'd be a chance to beat anyone
