Geelong should be afraid

Post: # 451808Post Enrico_Misso »

Tonight was NOT a good result for the Cats.

They may have cheered when Cousins went down (and who didn't :D ) as that effectively rules out West Coast.

But
- Port have come through unscathed
- they get a week off
- they then get a home prelim which almost certainly smoothes their way to a Grand Final

Geelong
- have a high risk game on Sunday at a neutral ground
- if they lose it they are doomed to play and lose to Port in the Prelim
- if they win they then have another "danger" prelim at the neutral MCG
- if they win that they then have to play Port in the GF

Geelong should fear Port most as
- they lost to Port 2 weeks ago at their own home ground
- Port have pretty much their best 22 (Wakelin ?) up and running
- Port have the best ruck duo in the comp, and Ruckmen count in finals
- Geel have a few injury worries
- Geel have been "up" for a long time and may have trouble sustaining their form
- Geel have a much tougher road to the GF

- and Port have the biggest wildcard in Tredrea
5 years ago he was in the top 3 players in the comp.
Injuries/age have caught up with him.
But if he can produce some moments of inspiration (he showed some tonight) then he can be the one who takes the flag away from the Cats.

I suspect there is a bad smell in the kitty litter tonight.

Let's not get carried away.

Port managed to claw their way to a rather fortunate win at home against an Eagles team whose injury problems before and during the game made ours against the Demons last year look like a few scratches and an ingrown toenail.

I thought Port's forward structure and general attacking strategies looked extremely poor: as, indeed, they did for much of the game against Hawthorn at Aurora a few weeks ago.

One thing that was apparent last night is that Port's fans are almost as feral as those of the Cats. If the two teams do end up playing each other in a PF or GT, they should set up some stands outside providing free on-the-spot vasectomies: we need to cut off the supply of these genes to future generations!!!

Port will win the flag I reckon. Have a great bunch of smalls, and quality flankers.

WCE where never gonna win it when kerr and hansen got injured(judd was already down and out).

Geelong imo arn't the real deal(no real reason why I think this ;))

I think you are wrong. Last night confirmed the Cats as nearly the biggest certanties since the Bombers in 2000. Port are just a side and WCE through injuries are finished. Except the Swans no one else in the eight can challenge and the Swans draw is to hard IMO.

It's a bit more open than that.

The Crows are capable of beating Port at AAMI if they meet them, or even Geelong on the right day. And the Kangas could conceivably beat Geelong at the MCG, but probably not Port at AAMI.

I don't see either Hawthorn or the Filth getting through this weekend. Alas, the Swans can never be written off.

Totally agree

An unscathed (Cousins)WC who won last night would have been the bigger danger

gametime into Embley/chick.....

Kerr? and Hansen? another 2 weeks to get ready etc

Without those genes they will have less Hawkins, Ablett's, Scarletts, Blakes!

I think you can put your house on The Cats if they win today which I think they will easily.

What did the cats finish?

TOP 3 or 4 games clear.

They smashed North last time they met.

The Cats have little to fear.

If they don't win in a canter they should give it away!

106 points to the good.

As much as I hate to admit, everyone ELSE should be afraid of them.

Another thing is they finished 9th last year, it's amazing what can happen in a year. With some astute trading and recruiting and a big pre-season that could be us next year. 8-)

Have to admit the thread looks a bit dated now.

I went to the game.
I think some poor umpiring took the wind out of North's sails early, when they were competitive.

But the second half was a debacle.
But not entirely convinced it was all Geelong's good play.
Basically North were terrible in the second half.
Missed targets, didn't go in hard, lacked confidence.

Still think Port have some mind game points over Geelong.
If Port can get a few early goals (I'm assuming they will play off in the GF) and put some pressure on them, then the Cats can wobble.

And the media will remind them as the month wears on about how long it has been since 1963
And many Grand Finals they have lost.

They are not home yet.
But in reality all they have to fear is their mindset.

Don't worry Enrico - try AMI nasal spray, it can help with the premature evaluation
