Geelong only need to wait 52 weeks for their next flag
Geelong might have waited 44 years for this premiership but they only need to wait 52 weeks for their next one
They are so far ahead of the rest of the competition, it is scary
Who can challenge them next year?
West Coast are gone, they will slip, but if they get three picks in the top 20 might be challenging again in a couple of years
Sydney will be lucky to make the eight and IMHO they won't, years of topping up will come back to bite them big time, at least they managed a premiership before their slide
Collingwood are building and while they went very close to Geelong in the prelim and played a fantastic game they have too many old players who are on the way out and Geelong are easliy a class above them
North, I expect to bottom out with this year having been a one off and their finals form was a better refelection of where they are at
Hawthorn are quickly becoming the most likely challengers but even they are at least two years away from being a serious premiership contender imho
Port Adelaide, played above themselves all year, got lucky with a lot of close wins and quite frankly ended up as the second best team mainly due to there being noone else seriously challenging
Adelaide nup
Bulldogs, Brad Johnston a forwardline does not make, they do not have any quality tall forwards and so are just making up the numbers again
St.Kilda..............pffft, if anyone is deluded into thinking that Geelong would be seriously worried by us then you are fair dinkum living in cloud cuckoo land
Poor recruiting, list mismanagement and short sighted buffoonery by Grant Thomas has put this football club back three years and the mess that he left behind will take years to put right
We need to recruit wisely and be prepared to make some tough decisions
Our list is fundamentally flawed, lacks toughness, lacks pace and falls away very quickly in the bottom half of our best 22
Geelong on the other hand still have Hawkins coming through who will be the next Lockett of the competition and he would have got a game yesterday for any other of the 15 clubs in the AFL
Egan ( injured ) the AA CHB, Travis Varcou lightning quick, Mark Blake great ruck prospect all didn't play yesterday and there are also a few others who would walk into most other AFL teams, but Geelong can't even fit them in to their best 22
Anyone thinking that all we need is a good run with injuries is delusional
Geelong have toughness, pace and skill, three things that we lack
WE need some quality young players coming through and we have precious few, poor recruiting and mismanagement has seen to that
Hopefully Armitage will step up next year, Watts might grab his opportunity with Gehrig retired, Ferguson might get more of a go etc...etc...
BUT this still does not address our achilles heel
WE are SLOW, we don't have leg speed, in fact we are almost the slowest team in the AFL and after having been mollycoddled for over five years by the previous coach our players have developed too many bad habits and are are mentally weak and soft
Perhaps Kleenex can become a major sponsor
We need to rebuild quickly, but Geelong are so far ahead of the competition I fear that the next time they will be seriously challenged won't be until 2009 and hopefully by then it will be by us, but we need to make every post a winner for that to happen
We are so far off the pace it isn't funny, our list is currently cactus in terms of us being a serious premiership contender
I've read one delusional poster on here claim that we have an outstanding list ...pfft, maybe three years ago in relative terms to the rest of the competition, but things change very quickly in the AFL, and if you stand still by recruiting poorly, you will eventually get pantsed
One thing that won't change from this year to the next is that Geelong will be premiers again in 2008

Saints 2008. We have to start thinking like winners or at least believing that we can win it.
are their young players that much better than ours? I don't believe they are, but this season they were better prepared, coached and motivated than ours.
they also had a good run with injuries

Some of the comparisons are not spot on, but it stands out that we have too many flankers in the St Kilda side, and Geelong have better half-forwards and goalkickers.
However, we are not very far off at all in terms of personnel.
Where we are a long way off is injury management and fitness, and hopefully these are somewhat fixed over the pre-season.
Absolute BS to say the Eagles won't be a force.
West Coast were 3 points away from a home PF without their CHF and best two midfielders.
Throw in Hansen, Cousins, Kerr and Butler (premiership players) and West Coast are a force.
They will win 14-15 regardless next year and finish top two ... plus they will be hungry. Almost certain to play off in a GF IMO.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

what about the eagles last year...what about their dynasty???
and the power???
the swans???
a year is a long time in football...yet alone a week...
I never rated West Coast and especially Sydney as having any lasting impact, both teams had obvious weaknesses to exploit and were not that far ahead of the rest of the competition
In fact Sydney were only there through the excellent work from their medical department and I didn't rate them that highly even when they won the premiership
Geelong are a completely different case
and that's not even taking into consideration that Sydney won by 4 points, West Coast 1 point and Geelong 119 points
but if you bothered to take note of this, it might give you even just a tad of insight into how much stronger than the rest of the competition they actually are
Geelong won two finals by over 100 points and won throughout the year approx 10 games by ten goals or more
St.kilda did not have a 10 goal lead in any game for the entire year
getting any warmer?
though not

Hey barks, I thought that we just had to wait for lyon to have a full team and the rest was history.....
history is littered with great years that do not turn into back to backs. As has already been said, have a look at essendon 1999, 2000 and 2001. 1 flag in three years of domination. And they won it in a very weak 2000.
Carlton in the middle 90's had the team to win more then 1 flag but they didn't.

one look at the bench and the answer is NOOh When the Saints wrote:Fully fit, can this 22 win a premiership?
I/C: S. Baker, J. Blake, S. Birss, R. Clarke
While that team looks ok on paper, the game isn't played on paper, in fact you wipe your............................
Fact is that team is still TOO SLOW and is yesterday's news
We will not improve with yesterdays's men even at full strength to the extent that we will win a premiership
We will NEVER win a premiership with liabilities like Jason Blake and Shane Birss running around for starters
We need players that we havn't drafted yet to come into that team and play like guns
The team you put up at full strength might have won the 2004 and 2005 premierships but that is done and dusted
Too many supporters are stuck in a time warp still getting a semi and reaching for the petroleum jelly over the 10 game streak video
FAIR DINKUM
Geelong went within a bee's dinger from that 119 point grand final win being their 20th in a row
Collingwood are the only other team that truly challenged them and it is no conincidence that they did so by playing NEW YOUNG players

Not bad owen, I'd make a couple of slight adjustments on current form (ie. 2007) but agree if our guys were at their peak some may be as you put it.

I could be as easily simplistic as yourself and type BRISBANE, but that would also avoid actually analysing what is going on in 2007/2008
I mean FAIR DINKUM if I wanted to really start dumbing down the entire thread to a point where you could actually understand it, I could type MELBOURNE from the 1950's but that would be about relevant as your initial input

So you quote the only dynasty in the last 15 - 20 years!! Lets face it, there have been more preimership hangovers then dynasties. Heck geelong and port didn't play finals last year. Last years grand finalist didn't make the prelims. A year is a long time in football, heck a week is a long time in football. 6 months ago steve johnson might have thought his career was over, mark thompson was looking over his shoulder for the dagger in his back and the football world was all wondering where the cats goals would come from!!barks4eva wrote:Nah, I actually try to ignore simpletons like you, if you must knowplugger66 wrote:

yeah some good points B4E .. particulalry on Cats depth .. they have some awesome talent there that still is to come into that team and not a lot of players on the way out.
I think you've undersold WCE - if they get an injury run similar to cats this year, they will finish top 2 with all the associated perks. Strong list - even without Judd they still have a strong midfield unit and they will pick up 3 top 20 draft picks this year. Maybe all 3 wont blossom in their first year, but it sets them up for another crack at it in 2009/10/11.
Agreed that the bottom half or our list is no where near the calibre of Cats or Eagles bottom half.
Hawks best of the rest - but will be ready for a crack at it in 2009. Collingwood will be around the same level as Hawks in 08, but just not quite at same standard as Cats or Eagles.
Saints will need lots of luck with injury and very clever list management to be in the hunt for top 4. Tough ask.

Tough ask.
A bit like finding a needle in a haystack around this place

"It's a work in progress," Lyon said.
Yes your posts are so intelligent. I for one do not understand a word of what you say but there people in institutions who would understand every word.barks4eva wrote:Nah, I actually try to ignore simpletons like you, if you must knowplugger66 wrote:
No answer on Essendon and Carlton. Doesnt suit your discussion.
That's the 100% true reason why I didn't respond to your earlier post
I could be as easily simplistic as yourself and type BRISBANE, but that would also avoid actually analysing what is going on in 2007/2008
I mean FAIR DINKUM if I wanted to really start dumbing down the entire thread to a point where you could actually understand it, I could type MELBOURNE from the 1950's but that would be about relevant as your initial input
Analysis try it some time, you might just get a clue, although I won't be holding my breath
A year is a long time in football. Geelong looked ordinary last season and finished 9th. They hardly changed the team and this year dominate.
This time last year it was who is going to stop the Eagles? This time last year Port and North Melbourne was going to make up the numbers and nothing else.
To predict the 2008 premier now is really not on.
Who knows, we may pick up a mid, Gardiner may play all games, Kosi may have a blinder, Lenny and Goose back to full form, Luke Ball over his OP, the Clarkes with full preseasons, Gilbert to improve, Allen and Armo to come in and re-invigorate the team,we may have an injury free season and dominate like Geelong this year. Unlikely but who saw Geelongs absolute dominance from nothing last year?
You just dont know.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Geelong are a great team and last year they sacked their fitness coach during the season after they had many soft tissue injuries.
This year they had a great run on the injury front and I believe this to be a key issue to their success this year, and maybe the reason why the WCE failed towards the end
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
