Adam Schneider discussion here ...
Ch. 10 reported all but done as a deal.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Ch. 10 reported:
#26 for Adam Schneider
Ch. 7 reported:
Leigh Fisher for Adam Schneider
My take:
Leigh Fisher for Schneider = WIN
Pick #26 for Schneider = WIN
Leigh Fisher + #26 for Schneider = LOSE (just)
Leigh Fisher + #43 for Schneider = EVEN
Leigh Fisher + #26 for Schneider and Bolton = WIN

now I wouldn't mind schneider, but I think folks are overrating him a bit.
think about all the criticism directed at Yapper milne, only plays well against the poor sides etc...
schneider is 23, and may be a couple of seasons before he matures yet, but he is an OK player, maybe a top line GOP certainly not in the category of say an andrew thompson, although he may grow in time.
Dempster is troy shwarz mark 2. 191 cm skinny defencive player who gets about 9 possessions a game. also aged 23.

Yeah but just like TS40 - he can roost a footy a fair distance and run quickly. Has a premiership medallion too - so he knows what it's all about!!Dan Warna wrote:posted this on the other thread

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

He was pretty good in two reasonably big games though Dan... Prelim & GF in 2005!
Dempster is pretty limited but is an athlete who can stop his opponent. Has a thumping kick on him and would at least provide much needed depth.
Having heard no update today I am getting nervous that this may be one of the too good to be true trades that don't eventuate.

It was an article from yesterday, but I am more inclinced to believe article with direct quotes from Paul Roos.joffaboy wrote:Please name your source. If it is the article from last night well that is old hat.
Here is an article from Realfooty today, look at the language used:
"are likely to be traded"
"While Schneider was in Bali last night and is yet to agree to the trade"
"an agreement in principle has been reached"
"he is likely to to given a chance with the saints"
Not one quote, not one "definite", "official", "certain" etc.
The media is sprouting a lot of unsubstantiated crap at the moment and I wil pay a lot more attention to articles with quotes and specifications rather than "it is believed" articles.
yes he does have a premiership medal and he should be proud of that.yipper wrote:Yeah but just like TS40 - he can roost a footy a fair distance and run quickly. Has a premiership medallion too - so he knows what it's all about!!Dan Warna wrote:posted this on the other thread

54 games 8 goals, averaging less than 10 possessions.
in his finals games he averaged 5.5 possessions in 05 and 7.3 possession in 06.
aaron keating also has a premiership medal.
dempster may have potential but its not like we are getting a superstar, he's a tailender in a very good side.
also he leaks free kicks on a rate of 1:2
just because you play in a premiership doesn't make you an auto gun. IMO a few folks are really overrating dempster, round 3 or round 4 pick would be his personal value at most.

I wouldnt mind dempster as a depth player and schneider would be close to being in our best 22, if not in our 22, and they are 23 years of age, but they aren't superstars.
they were contributing players in a very good team.

Agree Dan about Schneider, from the Sydney games I saw over the past year I noticed he was staging for free kicks a bit and only stood out when the Swans were on a roll. Its very early days to be calling him the Messiah, GOP at best.Dan Warna wrote:posted this on the other thread

The thing about recruits is in a new environment is they are motivated to impress so I would expect a good first year, given he will be competing with Yapper for a spot. It could the bring the best out of both of them.

agree busso, IMO if we did get schneider, at a reasonable price, Im thinking pick 26 only would be his value.
he would compliment milne very well.
milne played his best football when guerra was running around with him IMO. like warne and may, if one didn't hurt you, the other did. defence were constantly shuffling around depending on who was up, but the reality was they were confusing the opposition.
schneider seems more like guerra, with his tackling but does dive a bit.
dempster is being talked up >< struggled to make the sydney team in 07, didn't have an injury that I can remember, played about 1/2 the swans games.
HOWEVER at 23, tehre is still room to improve but on current form, shneider = round 2 pick, dempster round 3 or 4 pick.

I agree Dan, they're not players you want to top dollar for - however, given their age and experience of playing in big finals matches over the past couple of years, they will still be good gets. Adds enormously to our depth, in the areas of running ability and goal scoring power. If they get away with late round picks for these blokes - good job I say.Dan Warna wrote:agree busso, IMO if we did get schneider, at a reasonable price, Im thinking pick 26 only would be his value.

so do we actually know the chances of a trade happening? so often there is talk of trades that never go ahead. have we had serious talks with sydney and likely to strike a deal, or does no one really know what's going on at this stage? i've only heard about the trade from people who were certain schneider had signed with us so i dont have any "real" info on whats actually going on...what's the latest in the news?
Destiny. It's in our hands.

Of course Schneider would be in our best 22! He is EXACTLY the kind of player we need and is one of the best half forwards in the comp. You crap on about how he plays better against crap sides...can you find me a forward in the competition who doesn't?Dan Warna wrote: Season Rnd Versus K H D M HO T FF FA G B SC Rat W/L

His stats in recent finals aren't hugely impressive, but he makes a contribution (which is more than we can say about half the players at St Kilda)
2005 Prelim
Schneider - 9 kicks, 3 marks, 3 goals, 3 tackles
Opposition small forwards
Milne - 4 disposals, 4 tackles
Guerra - 1 disposal, 2 tackles
2005 Grand Final
Schneider - 9 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal, 1 behind, 3 tackles
Sampi - 9 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles
2006 Qualifying Final
Schneider - 15 disposals, 8 marks, 2 goals, 1 behind, 3 tackles
LeCras - 2 disposals, 1 behind, 1 tackle
2006 Prelim
Schneider - 14 disposals, 2 marks, 4 behinds, 1 tackle
Farmer - 9 disposals, 1 goal, 1 behind, 5 tackles
2006 Grand Final
Schneider - 14 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal, 3 tackles
Armstrong - 8 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal, 1 behind
For a small half forward his finals record is pretty good.
