Thereafter, he struggled with ankle problems and finished the season playing in the VFL Grand Final. Has the ability but needs to make the most of his opportunities.

and you wonder why we are mid table , which is where we have been for two years, if you bothered to lookplugger66 wrote:I hope is that good then because Blake has played 100 games and finished in the top ten in the B&F.barks4eva wrote:Charlie Gardiner, if ever the AFL had a Jason Blake clone then this guy is it
DO THE MATHS AND THE SQUARES ARE ALL ROOTED.
Every side has great players do they. No Blake is an honest battler who probably will struggle next year if we improve. Has nothing to do with excepting poor play. I certainly do not have rose coloured glasses when looking at our players.barks4eva wrote:and you wonder why we are mid table , which is where we have been for two years, if you bothered to lookplugger66 wrote:I hope is that good then because Blake has played 100 games and finished in the top ten in the B&F.barks4eva wrote:Charlie Gardiner, if ever the AFL had a Jason Blake clone then this guy is it

Charlie is no superstar but he came cheap, is at least as good as Blake for example, and at absolute worst provides depth. In his U18 days he was AA so he has some talent; perhaps the change of scenery will bring out his best. He may not make our best 22 but how often do your best 22 ever play regularly? Or ours at least ...

Hi
I don't know Charlie Gardiner at all. Can you tell me what position he plays? Is he fast or slow? Kicking skills? Handball? Reading of the play?
I've never heard of him before. Any info would be appreciated.
And... welcome Charlie! Good luck to you with the Saints. I hope the change of clubs brings you (and us) a lot of luck!
Cheers

A top ten B&F finish rewarding he weekly negative roles due to the fact that he is one dimensional does not alter that.

Obviously everyone has an opinion.Spinner wrote:Obviously not a fan of premierships.Otiman wrote:I'd have 3 Jason Blake's in the side if we had them.
That said, I'd have 22 Riewoldts and 22 Robert Harveys.
How many times do we have to talk about the same old thing with Blake
Its pretty clear half of us rate him, half of us don't
This thread is about Charlie, not BLAKE

In a side that barely changed their line up all year there were not many opportunities for him.
Averaged 15 possessions and 5 marks in his 5 games this year.
Will push for selection in that third tall position. How fast is he, can't remember how well he leads at the ball.
Look he will be in a fight for a forward spot along with watts, allen and kosi depending on the ruck situation.

Struggle to think he'll play more than 10 games for us.
However, it's clearly a make-weight to get King on the cheap (was Gardiner contracted?), and thus, if we delist him after a year, I've got no issues with that.
If he kicks on and does well, great. Unlikely however, and I'd suggest his future won't be a big one.
However, with that hanging over his head, maybe he'll be extra keen to show he's more than a makeweight...?

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
I reckon he fits in well with St Kilda "culture" too. There is a Charlie Gardner hospital in WA, so almost seems like destiny for him to come to the Saints. Will compliment our wing at the Epworth nicely!

St Kilda = Hack central.
I thought we were moving forward after getting rid of all our old players...but adding Jones, King, Gardiner and Dempster onto the list just sends us further backwards. Hopefully we will at least cut Ferguson and maybe Rix now. I just don't understand why we are trading for players who just won't make a positive impact.
Look at the new players
Schneider - He is the one player I am genuinely happy to have. He adresses our lack of goalkicking half forwards and adds some spark into the team
Dempster - There is nothing that Dempster can do that Blake, Raph Clarke and Ferguson can't do. I didn't mind us trading for him, but it is unrealistic to expect him to play 100 games for St Kilda. He couldn't get a game when Sydney were missing their CHB and FB. He won't add anything.
King - Played about 5 games this year and none were actually good. He spends more time injured than playing and can't cover the amount of ground required in modern football. He is a less mobile version of Rix,
Gardiner - He is a forward who doesn't get the ball and very rarely kicks goals. Utterly useless.
I thought we were getting rid of the deadwood, but we are simply replacing it.
Gehrig, Hamill, Voss, Thompson, M.Clarke > Jones, Schneider, Dempster, King, Gardiner
