Again we see a thread "discussing" the merits of her article. Again she is described as a b***h amongst other things.

This language is not only purely offensive, it is sexist and misogynist. It never ceases to amaze me that simply because she is a woman she cannot know anything about football and worse, that is is implied that "she must have slept her way to her position or information", that her looks are somehow connected to her ability.

These comments are neither intelligent or funny and should not be welcome on this site.

I agree that the insinuations about her appearance and sexual behaviour are wrong and should not be posted.

But there are plenty of journalists - "Fatpryck Smith" for example - who are the subject of hostility ...

I'm not sure those who express their anger at Caro in that sense are intending to be sexist and mysogynist.

Patrick Smith has copped far worse I reckon over the years..to the point of being heckled by a SS poster in the Moorabbin Car Park..Robert Walls too has copped his fair share.

I'd hope Caro wouldnt want any special workplace treatment because of her gender..Footy journalism is not a place for the thin skinned, I reckon she (and most of her peers) have copped worse to their face than anything posted here. Go read BF if you want some REAL Caro flaming.

Having said that, there are lines you dont cross..if they are the posts/poster will be dealt with accordingly

Standard banter it seems to me. Her looks are not connected to her ability. She has pretty good prose. But her opinions are junk, her football knowledge atrocious (which is why she doesn't write about football, just its politics) and she happens to be fairly vomit-inducing to look at. A bit of a tragedy for her to be poor in so many important but separate domains.

On the other hand, she has a job the rest of us would give our eye teeth for and she certainly does make people sit and up and listen.

Keep up the good work posters.......fire off and say what you like/call the journos what you like IMO.

Remember: they love nothing better than stoking their own egos (eg. Hutchy), and love slandering/almost slandering people they write about.

It's the law of jungle IMO with regards to the journos - a different set of rules then how we deal with other people.

It's part of what makes Melbourne a great city and AFL a good game - all the passion!

As for her being good at her job, this is the woman who got 0 in tipping on more than one occasino, she barely even talks about footy she only talks about all the stuff the players get up too off the field, she should get the hell over herself.

I think her position as head football writer puts alot of people off.

Especially as others have said, most of her articles are gossip fluff pieces, that she tries to blow up into things that they are not.

If on the other hand she was doing a section of the paper like, The Pulse, Punchlines. Where Gossip is a mainstay of the section, she would not be ridculed as much.

Before you blow hards jump in telling me I'm sexist becuase I said a woman should write in the gossip pages, grow up. There are plenty of good female journalists, Sam Lanes articles are always entertaining and based on facts.

When people claim she's good at it, it really depends on what her job is doesn't it?

Her job, as far as I see, is to sell newspapers. In that regard, she does well.

If it's to give an insight into the goings on on the footy field, then she's appalling. I've never read one skerrick of on-field info from her that has increased my knowledge of the game.

If it's her job to peddle rumours and gossip relating to politics of footy clubs and players' personal lives - then she does a great job.

If it's her job to report facts on any footy related matters in an unbias and objecgtive fashion, then she's terrible at her job.

As far as I see, she is an opinion writer. It's just that the topics she writes her opinions on interest me about as much as a turd sandwich. Footy club politics and off-field gossip are the most boring subject matters going around. They get done to death and generally the only people really interested in them are those who don't really understand the game itself.
