We have spent the past four years topping up with top up reject ruckman and people have the stupidity to knock the recruiting staff for picking up the best available 200cm kid in the draft

I haven't seen him play but I like what I have read.
I hope we give him time to develop and don't have foolish expectation for him to play a major part in '08 & '09.

Ross said on the SEN that Dal etc would all be at their peak when he saw McEvoy coming on-line in 3 years time.

Our draft picks apart from Gtrain are all about the future ina few yearss many of them were at the lower age end.

After trading for a handy group of players in their prime.....even King as ruckmen often play their best footy at his age....this balance our list up nicely.

I noticed the age and development required for the draftees.

Glad Ross has the confidence not to opt for recycled players (other than G of course)

King, Gardiner, Dempster . . . I could go on.

TBH, I don't see any difference in our drafting/trading pre and post RL's appointment - that is, other than the recycled players are older.

I differentiate between trading for required players such as Schnieder/Dempster which appear to be good value and using valuable picks for delisted players such as McGough.

King and Gardiner traded for #90 (probably not to be used) or in effect traded for Watts and Brooks (the players they probably replaced).

Hardly compares with Ackland #32 and McGough #45 IMO where we added deadwood withhout losing any.

We feel as though the club is in really good shape list wise for the next three to four years. You don’t have to make yourself a kindergarten. You can develop and aim to be successful at the same time. It’s not mutually exclusive. - Ross Lyon/saints.com.au
Yeah - and its a bit hard not taking recycled players when you are trading with other clubs.

According to our footy crew at Champion Data, McEvoy was the standout ruckman in the draft. They rate Kreuzer as a forward but not as a ruckman. Who needs a ruckman to be quick in any case? As long as he gets the ball and can lope along on those long legs I don't see it as an issue.

Hi Two Towers. I know champion data rank the club drafts. Where did they rank the Saints?

Can someone tell me where the link is for the footage on Ben, other than somewhere on the AFL site? Cheers :)

Very happy with the selection. His stats from the TAC cup indicate show he can kick goals as well as find a lot of the footy. For me, I was hoping for him or Ebert then probably Rance next. However, since Barry Brooks I have always been reluctant taking a ruckmen at a high pick. Picking a ruck seems to be more about luck than any other positions but still very happy and am crossing my fingers that he can develop into a quality ruckmen.

King / Gardiner / Kosi will give us a strong Ruck for the next 2 to 3 years, by which time McEvoy will be readyto take over.

For the first time in years we have a long term solution to our Ruck situation.

Our rucks will now actually be a strength, rather than a weakness to be patched over with makeshift hacks like Ackland, Knobel, Blake, Brookes, Rix etc.

I can't get my head around the negativity shown on this thread, we have struggled in the past in the ruck area, we have picked up a kid early with ruck "potential" and some are bleating, our ruck stocks are ageing and suspect injury wise.
Looking forward to see how this kid goes.

LOL JeffDunne, you have managed to top yourself with this one

Your interpretation of a veteran certainly appears to be at odds with the AFL’s which is demonstrated by the Veteran’s List

AFL Veteran’s list requirement
30 years of age
10 years service to one club

St.Kilda Veteran’s list players
Rob Harvey
Age 36
20 AFL Seasons
359 Matches

Max Hudghton
Age 31
11 AFL seasons
204 matches

JeffDunne’s Veterans
Adam Schnieder
Age 23
74 matches

Sean Dempster
Age 23
40 matches

Charlie Gardiner
Age 23
49 matches

Stephen King
Age 28
177 matches

Your pettiness never ceases to amaze me JB.

Actually, truth be known, I’m not surprised in the least.

As usual, rather than debate the issue you’ll immediately go the man. If that wasn’t sad enough, you’re now looking up stats in a vain attempt to give credibility to a pathetic and completely irrelevant point? Like I said, sad.

FWIW, I’ll stick with the dictionary definition of the word.

Just one question. Have you seen many of the games either McEvoy or Kreuzer have played?

We aren't going to know the answers to these "who's better than who" from this Draft for another 3-4 years. We should dig this thread up then !!
