god knows why the hawks wanted him
He's good enough for a third tall defender IMO, unfortunately Carlton don't have 2 quality talls...
IMO Carlton are eventually going to have to trade a midfielder such as Carazzo or Murphy to get a half decent backman...

Geelong
Collingwood
Hawthon
Port Adelaide
St Kilda
Carlton
West Coast
Brisbane

Kangaroos
Fremantle
Sydney
Richmond
Bulldogs
Adelaide
Melbourne
Essendon

In my opinion at this very early stage that is how the 2008 ladder will look. Essendon will have a shocking year, Blues will be on the way up with the injection of cash into there playing list.

It doesn't matter who drops out, the question should be which poor saps will be making up the numbers against us in the Grand Final??

I think that the following teams will all struggle to make the 8

Collingwood -have lost Clement from their backline and he was the 'glue' that held them together. I think their youngsters will have much less impact next season as opposition clubs put more time/effort into them.

Kangaroos - seemed to massively overachieve this season.

Adelaide - must surely be entering a rebuilding phase

Swans - injuries (finally) and aging list see them dropping down the ladder

WCE - notwithstanding their unfair homeground advantage, must surely miss the loss of Judd and Cousins from their midfield. It will take time for them to recreate their engine room which was the reason they won in 2006. It (the midfield) allowed them to get away with a sub-standard forward line and an 'iffy' backline (apart from Glass)

That allows room for 5 teams to move up the ladder.

Saints
Lions
seem the obvious choice for big improvers.

Carlton will improve, but who knows how much?

Fremantle - if we knew which Freo was going to turn up we could make an informed decision? Let's assume its the 'good Freo' next year.

Bulldogs and Melbourne don't appear to have either the 'goods' or the desire to overachieve like the Kangaroos this year.

Richmond are still too many good players short of a finals team.
Essendon have too many holes.

So we may have the situation where there wil be a few teams in the 8 who are basically just making up the numbers.

Yep agree with Essendon, wooden spoon or bottom 3 IMO

As well as Brisbane (and I'm not sure which of the 3 outfits this season showed will be seen - it's a young team and will continue to struggle for consistency) and St. Kilda, expect Fremantle to make a climb. With more realistic expectations of themselves, the Bulldogs should put up a real fight for the finals too.

Adelaide and Sydney could struggle - but they're both a hot streak away from top 4. Don't discount Neil Craig, and don't discount fresher bodies in Sydney.

West Coast will be under the pump, but with their midfield depth (and they've still got Kerr and Cox), the Subiaco advantage, and Lynch and Glass now providing them with bonafide KPP at both ends, they'll be right amongst it with the above 2.

As well as the Kangas, I wouldn't be surprised to see Port fall a bit this year, ala Bulldogs '07. They're well coached, and have a great core in the Cornes and Burgoynes, but teams will be a lot more ready for them this year. After that nailbiting game against Geelong at the end of H&A, Geelong was more than a slight cut above in the GF. If their kids keep the nose to the grindstone, they'll follow up well - if not as well... if they get ahead of themselves, they'll be vulnerable. I maintain that as good as Port were, their season was made to look good by the teams than massively underperformed.

Carlton's not there yet - but may be in '09. Their backline remains pourous, and Fev remains a headcase. It'll take some time for the new mids to gel, and Judd and Stevens are both coming back from injury... but look for a big 2nd half to sound the warning bell that they've had enough of being bottom feeders.

Wooden spoon for mine remains Richmond, Essendon will be down there too.

Can't wait to see if I'm even close :)

west coast will be around the mark as they will still win 9 games at home and will win games in melb aginst the richmonds , carlton's and bullys

Freo will think they are certain flag favorites to follow in the geelong footsteps of underachiving then over achiving but the fact is they have a few good players who are surrounded by squids and living training cones , harvey will want to abolish the freo are soft tag and will instruct his team to go hard at the man but the likes of farmer and headcase will take it as an invite to act like thugs and end up giving away more frees then anything else i suspect they will be around the same mark as this year

the kangas will slide no archer.. no heart.. no heart.. no shinboner spirit ..no shinboner spirit .. they will be exposed for their lack of quallity players .

Essendon will bottom out no hird .. no leadership lloyd is predictable now there mids are faster now but lack consistancy and the coach will have the ghost of sheedy following him for the whole year

the crows ive tiped to slide every year cause the list is old slow and the super coach tag Craig gets i feel is over rated but the crows just wont go away will have the abillity to smash the weak teams at aami but will struggle against teams with depth

the cats will still have bartel still have gabblet still have selwood maybe not as dominate as this year but still now the players know what it is to give their all and see the friuts of it they will not suffer a giant premiership hangover (damn it )

bulldogs will slide pace was their strengh 2 years ago now all teams do is put pressure on them and they fold quicker the superman on laundy day wasted picks on mcdougal and you can tell akers heart isnt in it anymore will be bottom 4 this year maybe even tank later in the year in hope of a quallity tall in the draft

richmond with a season like last it would be hard to not improve suddenly finishing 9th each year lookes not to bad will improve but perhaps not enuff to keep mr solarium in the top job

collingwood will be around the same they lost buckly who didnt play at all last season so no big loss clement is a big hole to fill but with a plum draw and private jets for their once a year interstate match they should still win more then lose to walk into the 8

the brions will be the big improvers they have had their down time and a ready for the next era of dominance the mids are tough and skillful the forwards are big and menacing they have a future star in the ruck and the back line is becoming stronger will be a threat for the flag if injurys are kept at bay

the swannys will falter they havent looked for the future in the last few drafts and with the core group getting older and slower their era is about to close funny how it seems to follow spida to every team ..

the hawks came of age last season with a strong forward line decent midfeild and a workman like back line i think they may back off a bit this season as the rest of the comp have sortof got the idea of how to play/beat them but will still make the 8

port will come down abit as it was really luck that had them get to the G/F anyway will be interesting to see how the revelation first year players go now they become the objects of attention

carlton have lots of ? will judd get over the OP ? will he be as good with hackland taps as he was with Cox's ? will the team be able to bond with the bloke after he was put ahead of all of them ? will fev be able to kick more goals then their marshmellow defence will concede ?

melb well it all went wrong for them this year still not a threat but will be hard to see them be as bad next season

and finally us the saints . we were at times woeful this season we looked one paced and lost to the game plan all year we were waiting for it to click and the saints to storm into the finals but although we were better the longer the year went we never hit that grooove , next season the coach has had a full preseason of drafting trading and delisting he has built his list to what he wants the team to do and the players have had a little longer to adapt to his game plan on tallent alone we should make the 8 but with a working game plan and a smile from the injury gods maybe just maybe we could do some great things this year
