7 Rookies Next Year

Post: # 500221Post LTN16 »

We will have 7 Rookies next year because of us elevating Khan Haretuku(our NSW scholarship holder) to a rookie means he is still a rookie but is outside of the list.

Our Rookie's Next Year will be:
1. Jayden Attard
2. Robert Eddy
3. Luke van Rheenen
4. Pick 8
5. Pick 24
6. Pick 39
7. Khan Haretuku

7 rookies is the way I have understood to be the case for the Saints, but everyone seems to think only 6. We will have to wait 3 days to find out whether we take 2 or 3, I suppose.

Picks 8-24-39....

We should be able to pick up a tall defender type with at least one of those picks.........

8-)

Saints looking like a bottom 4 team in 2024.

Yes. You nominate for the two drafts together. Although if a player is under 18 or over 22 at Dec 31st then they aren't eligble to be rookied.

The new mature rookie rule means that you can take one over age player providing that he hasn't been on an AFL list before.

Clubs can include a maximum of three extra players on their rookie list, provided they are former scholarship list players, international scholarship holders (there are none of these players in this year's pool) or Sydney and Brisbane based players.

I'm a whole lot more excited about the rookie draft now :)

Are Mini and Sweeney eligible? Those are about the only two delistees i'd be interested in rookieing. Sweeney would have benefited from the kick up the arse in delisting, and Mini has been managed badly in his first few years, I thought even this year that he should have been ahead of Birss.

Can't you figure that out from what I just said?

Are they under 18? No.
Are they over 22? No.

Therefore they are eligble.

McQualter is a hack, I don't want anything to do with him... Sweeny is a possibility, wouldn't mind seeing what he is capable of after getting this wake up call...

both dunn and collard will get taken in the pre-season draft...and considering our first pick is at 8 we dont have a chance of getting them either

hopefully all recycled players are taken in the pre-season so we have a chance maybe at arrowsmith, gourdis or bellchambers

doubtful though

Travis Dulic a KP Defender would also be a good selection in the Rookie Draft.

as i read it we can have our 6 rookies plus an interstate rookie if they come from the NSW program, so we have 3 picks.......and will end up with 7 for the year........ :D

Travs Dulic, who beat Ben <cEvoy twice in the finals apparently, would be a great pick-up, but I am not sure he is old enough to be rookied.

I won't be surprised if we pick up a Mature Age Rookie in the 23 - 27yr old age bracket, some bloke who's been dominating the VFL, WAFL, SANFL or QAFL.

The best non AFL players at a reasonable age

Shane Valenti (Sandringham) - 2nd VFL B&F - 20yo
James Allen (North Adelaide) - 1st SANFL B&F - 22yo

Not many others stand out too much to be honest

Hope we pick Valenti up.

Mate of mine is a mate of his, and reckons a few AFL clubs have had a chat to him.

Would have to be close to the best under-21 talent in the country not on an AFL list. Would be surprised if Melbourne don't at least rookie him with the Sandy connection.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

do you know what his endurance and skinfolds are like?

when iv seen him, while i dont consider him big, he isnt as 'ripped' as most league footballers

looks can be deceiving though

No idea SaintBot, but I would imagine skinfolds and endurance would be two things that could improve a lot if you were on an AFL list ...
