So is Luke Miles 191cm or 185cm ??

It will be good to watch mini at the scorps next year to see how he goes.

So we essentially traded McQualter to our own rookie list so we can pick up Eljay Connors. I really do hope that any contract issues are sorted out by Mini being on the rookie list and that we don't have to pay him twice.

Our only backward move this post/pre season. Still as other posters have said, a big wake up call and our footy department know alot more than us armchair experts.

I believe he has the character to make a go of this, let's hope his ability matches his character.
well if noone had picked mcqualter up, the saints would have had to pay him out for 2008. this way he has a chance
I may have this completely wrong but I'm thinking McQualter has just received a pay rise as I still believe he'll be holding the money that the Saints have paid him for being delisted with a year to run PLUS now we'll be paying him the going rate of a rookie listed player.

Unless of course the club has had a word with him and offered the lifeline providing he doesn't cash his rookie pay cheque. I don't know how that would look on the books though, are rookies included in our salary cap or are they separate?

I'm pretty happy with our selections.

Chivers sees himself playing in the midfield eventually and is supposed to be very athletic.

Miles is a a good rookie pick. Extremely fast and a good height to be a running halb back/wingman.

McQualter never should have been cut, although I don't see what good he'll do playing at Casey. He's the kind of guy who will just put in solid performances at any level, so I can't see him absolutely dominating the VFL and earning a promotion. He is still a good backup option if we lose one of our regular mids to a long term injury.

Gee, good question. I'm sure some of the forum members will know exactly what Peake and Beveridge were thinking when they decided not to draft him.

Is this the same MSG that was giving our drafters a huge bake based basically just on what Bigfooty posters had written about possible draft choices???? :?

I was surprised as anyone by our last draft pick....and yes Gourdis(who I was pretty keen on) and a few others would have seemeda more likely pick.

However that late in the draft....all players are very much a gamble......and as was mention on BigFoty post draft...the BigFooty watchers see very little of players outside of the system....or who have not played much in the system.

However all in all our draft picks and trades look to be a pretty good group to me, a group that well address both our immediate and longer term needs.....and Miles is a pretty good replacement for Gourdis (as both are good quick tall athletes) who I was hoing that we would get

One can argue the toss about any one player we picked up.....but as a group they look pretty good....and when you factor in the exceptional trdaing we did....out overall rating to me for this combined drat/trade/rookie period would be oustanding.....and our recruiters and football managers deservea good pat on the back for a job well done.

so is McDudd/McQualter on peasant salary the same as all other rookies??

If so, if don't have much risk given we have 6 rookies on our list.

Hey I'm allowed to be annoyed at our drafting (and I had seen a few under 18's games), but actually asking people why we didn't choose a guy who had been passed on by every club in the competition seems a bit odd.

no he was contracted to us for 2008...if someone else picked him up...we would still have been liable to pay him any shortfall.....or the lot if no one picked him up.....

I'm with you there. I didn't like the Connors pick at all. I'm not a fan of drafting pockets and wingmen. Even if Eljay's fast, even if he's got great skills, he's still puny. He hasn't even proven his body can withstand TAC level wear and tear, let alone AFL. I can't see him playing a game for us in 08, so what was the rush to get him onto the list? There's a good chance he would have been available at the end of next year's draft as well, potentially in the rookie draft. I hope our recruiting staff know what they're doing, because Gaertner, Gourdis or Joseph all look like they would have been much better picks at this stage.

By definition that is just about every player in the rookie draft....as well as the PSD...Gourdis and McQualter included....

Well done mini, I hope you grab this opportunity with both hands and make it work for you.

pick 56 or whatever in the rookie draft shows how far you've slipped, but it also shows that st kilda still believe you have something to contribute.
Pity you werent Ian Baker-Finch's coach Dan - he lost everything !

lot of hit and miss and 20/20 hindsight in drafts and selections.

people are wringing their hands and waving to the skys about one pick or another.

I don't care if we play 20 gumbies if they deliver a premiership.
