If you read your first post again you never said that Chivers had 41.

I was just guessing what I thought the jumper numbers would be. But someone will get the #4
i think he means that Connors took 37 so Chivers couldnt...the next number would be 41

What the f$#k has Goose done to deserve to wear #4? He is not a bad player, but you, like some others SEVERELY overrate him.
Most of the players that we have on our list that would be WORTHY of the great number 4 have already made their name under their own numbers (Lenny, Roo, Dal) so i hope the club put it in mothballs until we find someone who will do the number justice

i'm expecting a big season from him once he's over his latest injury.

if he can regain the confidence and form he had before that horrible broken leg he'd wear it with distinction, imo.

that's my opinion but you're welcome to yours.

Exactly right. Thommo may have started in 14 as well (can't really remember now) but I remember Burkey playing in number 29. Anyone remember Kosi and X-man's numbers before they inherited the numbers they now wear?
Kozi was # 24 before moving to Loewe's number

29 has been a terrific "preliminary" number for some st.kilda guns.

Burke, Jones, Baker, Thompson and Peckett all wore that number between 1990 and 1998.

Thats 3 best and fairest winners, 2 captains and 4 200 game players.

Thanks for the update Plugger66 - You would think Dempster and C Gardner would get 24 and 28
They may rest no. 4

Didn't think any current player would want to change their number.

from the herald sun Tues 18th Dec

Lucky for some
THIRTEEN may be an unlucky number for some but one bloke who obviously doesn't think so is new St Kilda signing Adam Schneider. The 23-year-old, who was recruited by Sydney from the NSW-ACT in 2003, wore the so-called devil's number in his latter years with the Swans and it just so happened that the same number became available at Saintland following the delisting of an unlucky Brent Voss, so the Schneider tradition will continue at Moorabbin in 2008.
* IF Ben McEvoy was feeling any pressure about being St Kilda's first pick (No. 9 overall) he's going to be feeling even more now. Following the delisting of Fergus Watts, the 18-year-old has been bestowed with Aussie Jones' famous No. 5 jumper.

*STEVEN King obviously has a liking for low numbers. Having worn No. 1 at Geelong he arrives at St Kilda with that number already allocated to Jason Gram, but has since been offered (and has accepted) the next best thing — Aaron Hamill's old No. 2.

ausfatcat wrote:no way has it been retired, but in recent history players had to earn that number in a saints jumper. Ie wasn't Locketts origonal number and hasn't tommo's origonal jumper number either.
It wasn't Barry Breen's original number either.

Some players had to earn it, however 4 was Joel Smith's first number.

The numbers are up pon the saints website now...
No real surprises however I was disappointed to see that Attard hasn't been awarded with a lower number :( , who knows though he may have already formed a bond with the number 43...

How come Haretuku & Miles are both listed as 45? Wouldn't one be 46, or aren't we able to go that high? Or, is it just a typo?

Player numbers for 2008

as alluded to by armoo-- re attard I guess because he returns to being a rookie may have affected his number.

Yeah I was thinking that, the guy bleeds for the club and I honestly see him becoming a 175+ gamer for us, he may not be a match winner like others but he does his job and puts in his all every week, I would love to see him have the opportunity to wear a jumper with a bit more historical significance at the end of the year when he will no doubt be promoted onto the senior list...

Perhaps the no. 4 is being saved for him? Who knows? Maybe as someone else suggested he likes no. 43.

I honestly hope they let 35 sit for a while after the great man retires. I just can't imagine anyone else wearing it.

It would definitely take some getting used to that's for sure, but IMO Attard is the sort of player that Harvey would want to hand his number over to, I believe he would want to give it to a quiet achiever that puts his head over the ball and wheres his heart on his sleeve at every oppurtunity, just like he does... The way I see it when Harvey retires, I believe it should be up to him, afterall it is HIS number and I have no doubt that he would want to hand it down to a youngster, I hope that it is Attard... Or better yet, Armitage could come out of nowhere and show signs that he is the next Harvey and I would love to see it go to him, but as of now I wouldn't mind seeing Attard in the number 35...
