What happened to the countdown clock???
The "Pssst" section in yesterdays Age trumpeted that Collo had finally got his way and that the TD scoreboards would finally show a countdown clock, telling everyone exactly how long there was to go. Never eventuated though.
Would have been very handy for a certain someone who had the Saints by +39 1/2...that last 2 minutes when we clung to a 40pt lead were quite harrowing for the poor lad

I didn't think anyone backed us. Tigers went from $2.30 to $1.50saint66au wrote:The "Pssst" section in yesterdays Age trumpeted that Collo had finally got his way and that the TD scoreboards would finally show a countdown clock, telling everyone exactly how long there was to go. I'm totally against a countdown clock.
Keep the mystery in it.
Keep the suspense.
Keep the excitement.
And keep it Australian.
We don't want our game to wind up like American basketball with obese morons all watching the clock and counting down with a hammond organ playing in the background.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

True, and if Hollywood movies are anything to go by, the last two or three seconds go in slow motion, which is a bit boring for the crowd.Enrico_Misso wrote:We don't want our game to wind up like American basketball with obese morons all watching the clock and counting down with a hammond organ playing in the background.

Their mentioned it on Ch7 last night during the last qrt.
They said it must have broken down and were not sure if the players were aware that it was not working. So the clock was counting up like normal.

I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€

Unless its a SAints game and we are a point in front I'm not really a fan..but I cant really see how having it on the scoreboard is going to make a masssive difference
AFAIK the TV feed to the coaches boxes contains the clock..and if they dont then they only need a bloke in there with a stopwatch...so the coaches know..they feed the info to the runners (remember John Barnes and the two minute red cap??)
The crowd?? Well these days every second person at a game has the radio in their ear. They also have access to the clock so they can (and do) tell the listeners how long to go. That info is often screamed out to anyone within earshot if its a close game
