Winmar not in WA's top 50
According to the Sunday Times, the great Nicky Winmar can't even lay claim to being one of WA's top 50 football players. Peter Matera came in at 10, and while being a brilliant player, I rate him on par with Winmar. thoughts?

Judd at 3?
Must be players that played in WA not from WA, hense no Winmar.
But then again Simon Black is there. This list is confusing as hell.
And to place a person in the top 5 who has only played for 5 years is ludicrous WTF are these guys on. NO WINMAR???

I think they are just making it up as they go along.
Noway should Judd be before Bunton, maybe if he continues to play the way he has until he's at least 30 but not now by any stretch. Seriously these guys must be on Drugs. NO WINMAR????

According to teh nespaper link the criteria is as follows:-
Anybody who has played for the following:-
WANFL
WAFL
WCE
FREO
WA State team
WA State of Origin.
I thought Nicky played State/State of Origin for WA?
I notice that neither Jimmy nor Phil Krakouer made their top 50 either.
Another interesting thing:-
The article is written on the basis of the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Aussie Rules. I thouht we were 'celebrating' the 150th anniversary of the Melbourne Football Club. Those WAnkers are so biased against anything outside of WA that they cannot even give MFC the credit for their 150th anniversary!

Winmar always seems to get overlooked in the honours lists over here. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that the Eagles started in the same year that he did (and that he was overlooked for the Eagles squad).
He probably also suffers in comparison with players who played in premierships. He didn't have the great grandfinal that Michael Long did for example (understandable given Nicky's loss of his father the day or so before in '97).

Doc Baldock couldn't make the list of best 50 VFL/AFL.Winmarvellous wrote:He also played for Sth Fremantle at WAFL level. West Coast didn't want him, hence him coming to St Kilda. Thought the list rather funny to be honest. They even put Brereton in the top 25 all time, while Harvey came in 26. Chris Judd was top 20 all-time, better than Hadyn Bunton snr and Voss.
Can you enlighten us to the credentials of the 'selectors' as listed in teh story?

i read the article and it was very poorly done the west is by far the worst paper for footy news ... they even got the stats wrong for the saints game (they had it witen that big frase kicked 4 goals and kosi only had one !!!)
but lets also remember Kim Hagdon is the same tool that last year at round 12 wrote a darling article on why peter sumich will be the next geelong coach in 2008 !!! at round 12 right smack bang in the middle of geelongs rampage to the flag this tool is saying they will sack the coach and hire the potato man who cant string more the three words together .
having said that nicky is used to being over lookd by my state after all the Druggies overlooked him in thier first year as well

Winmar in Top 50
Local bias always the way. Don't worry about it. WQe were blessed to have him and they were jealous. How many VIC based players missed out I wonder?

Nicky Winmar had everything as a footballer, certainly every skill. Pace, marking, tackling, handballing and the one that less than 1% of all players ever master, being able to kick naturally with both feet. I always find it hard to list players in order of merit, but I can tell you that whatever system is used he would always be near the top for me.
As for some newspaper in WA - who cares about those drongos?

Has there been any discussion in Perth about these 'lists'.
If so, has anybody 'dared' to point out the obvious 'flaws' in them?
Are you allowed to do that in WCE City?
Is it a 'hanging offence' to question the WAnker/WCE view of history/life?
Do you risk being 'tarred and feathered' for not following the WAnker/WCE path?
Or 'stoning'? (no wait, the WCE players do that so that cannot be a punishment.
