The U2/Green Day song has been played prior to home games, with a montage of highlights edited to it. Generally gets no reaction from the crowd because its played 30 mins or earlier before the start of the game

If its gonna work to pump the crowd up...they have to play it closer to match time, draw attention to it...and turn up the volume til our ears bleed

Not sure if we need AAMI Stadium-style rev-ups though

Incidentally, the Green Day/U2 version is a cover, so the royalties would have nothing to do with them unless my knowledge of royalties and copyright is mistaken. It was originally by a Scottish punk band called 'The Skids' in 1978.

As with the band's following single, "Into the Valley," it is sung by fans of Dunfermline Athletic F.C. in the Scottish Premier League.

To coincide with the U2 and Green Day recording of the song, both bands performed it live during the Monday Night Football Pregame show of the New Orleans Saints versus Atlanta Falcons game on September 25, 2006.

So we wouldn't be the first sporting team to use it.

That is an awesome effort, I personally dont like the song being used for our games but obviously its not my decision For the cost of the rights to play that song we might even be able to get a band to wright a song for us and have it played at our home games.....just a thaught

The Green Day/U2 version was written and released to mark the Saints returning to the Superdome. The proceeds from sales of the record when to a charity for New Orleans musicians.

Using it and changing the words would seem a little crass to me.

not so much the royalties but the fact the words are changed would get up the artist nose . as for it being played at TD as the originals there would be a royalty fee just like when the radio stations play it but it would be minimal but obtaining the rights to the song would be near on impossible unless Bono is a closet sainter ?

Dont guess as its not all that hard or that expensive, the original author is the copyright holder it doesnt matter who or how many people release it, after that it remains the copyrigt of the original author until i think its 50yrs then it becomes public domain

A song like when the saints go marching in is probably public domain
meaning go for it but this other tune belongs to the original composer
