Kane Johnson arrested and charged

Post: # 535603Post Oh When the Saints »

http://news.theage.com.au/tigers-afl-sk ... -213k.html

Richmond captain Kane Johnson has been arrested over an incident in which he was caught urinating in public.

The Tigers have confirmed Johnson was charged with being drunk in a public place, after urinating outside a St Kilda Road police complex in Melbourne's inner east in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Club officials were meeting to discuss the incident, with a penalty for the skipper yet to be decided.

Stunningly, Johnson's indiscretion came just a week after a similar act by Carlton star forward Brendan Fevola, which resulted in him being sanctioned by his club.

Fevola was spared a suspension by the Blues for urinating outside a nightclub and played in Carlton's opening round loss to the Tigers.

But he was fined $10,000, stood down from the club's leadership group, ordered to undergo counselling and warned that another similar incident in the future would result in his sacking.

I personally believe there is a bigger underlying story here......

After two cases of players being caught urinating in public in two weeks I think the highlighted issue here is the shocking lack of public toilets throughout Melbourne!

John Brumby your inaction on this issue is disgraceful. I expect nothing less of a full government review into this issue perhaps headed up by Kenny of Splashdown Toilets.

Outside the St Kilda Rd police complex! -- makes Fev look like genius for doing it at the Candy Bar where at least one or two people might think it's a laugh.

Tigers skipper urinates, suspended
By Sam Lienert
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Johnson admitted his "stupidity'" and volunteered to sit out the match against the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome next weekend as his penalty.

The club accepted that decision and also fined the players $5000.

Johnson, a dual premiership player with Adelaide, had been due to play his 100th match for the Tigers, against North, after notching 104 games for the Crows.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
Johnson's behaviour is particularly embarrassing for the club given comments made by coach Terry Wallace in the wake of the Fevola episode.

While declining to comment on Fevola last week, Wallace paid tribute to his own leadership group and said his players' behaviour over the off-season had been "exemplary".
a classic behavour management technique- DO NOT make statements you cannot back up- or egg on face.

I wonder if he/they know(s) that Johnson wasn't drinking by himself?
They were at The White Room in Fitzroy Street and apparently very much 'under the weather' at that time (2am).

The other player with Johnson - Richo.

Fair chance there's not a heap of kids running around with your football jumper replica looking up to you like they do to their Tiger captain...

It is actually newsworthy when his team and the league are trying to clean up their respective public faces and gain some credibility.

A KJ has offered his services to the cause of preaching to the kids about alcohol abuse.

Good to see he's admitted he did the wrong thing and is prepared to help out.

Well if the breach was he was 'drunk in public' (he apparently hasn't been charged for the urinating yet) then why is no-one talking about Richo who was apparently drinking with him and just as 'inebriated'?

Don't the Tigers and Press know he was there?

No idea, not privvy to that sort of info.

But I heard on radio he's going to offer his services talking to teens about alcohol - hopefully in the right way

So I say good on him for doing that.

As opposed to vermin like ....... others.... who have done nothing but deny and be arrogant about their issues.

Good on Kane Johnson.
