Response to Cats players reported.

Post: # 548093Post StSteven »

I have repeated this because the thread has been hijacked by more pathetic arguing about nothing.

Its this whinging and whining, namby pamby crap that I hate and why we Saints supporters have little credibility in the footy world. Always gonna be great if only.....injuries may have been a slight excuse but we have sunk to the bottom of the barrel here. It is embarassing,

The Cats were much better than us, they have worked better as a team, they have improved their skills, they have recruited well (look at Gamble - 2nd game, Taylor 1st or 2nd and Selwood, 18yrs old) and organized their club better.

We have run out of excuses. The Board has to do something to get the club to a level that we are proud of instead of blaming everybody else.

I am sick of this crap.

PS Just saw that the Cats, if they had not lost that game by a kick would have had the longest winning streak ever.......they are that good.

Also except for Ottens and Harley (1 game with Port) they have grown all of their players and recruited no others from other clubs, that is impressive recruitment and coaching.

Not argueing with your content Steve, but isn't the title just a little misleading. There is no reference in your post about any Cats being reported.

And they don't need to get many players from other clubs because they 'breed' so well down there on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Has/is any other club been so well provided by Father/Son players.

To ignore that when looking at their recruiting/development is, IMO, neglecting a very important fact.

On Saturday how would they have gone without

Ablett
Hawkins
Blake
Scarlett

Have I missed any others?

By all means give them due credit for selecting Selwood, Bartel etc, but don't forget teh massive 'free kick' they have received under Father/Son.

if we had of kicked 7.4 instead of 4.7 in the first quarter there would have been a bit more pressure...i dont think we are far off from giving geeling a shake, just need to settle the teams positions, and make some hard calls on who should be dropped.

We had one less scoring shot, and smashed them in the clearances so we are doing something right

I don't quite understand what the whinge is? Just because a team is better than us dosen't mean they can avoid being reported if they deserve to be.

Mooney played 11 games for North....one of which wasa GF win....though Mooney's game was distinctive by not picking up one stat.

But Chapman I thought was always a Cat???

Never known Paul Chapman to be a Carlton player. Was drafted straight to Geelong from memory.

Geelong have:
Cameron Mooney (North Melb)
Tom Harley (Port Adelaide)
David Johnson (Essendon)
Brad Ottens (Richmond)

They have more father sons than any from other AFL clubs:
Gary Ablett
Nathan Ablett*
Mark Blake
Matthew Scarlett
Tom Hawkins
Adam Donohue

And for the record, in striving for balance, we have the following from other clubs and zero from father son:

Shane Birss (Footscray)
Sean Dempster (Sydney)
Aaron Fiora (Richmond)
Charlie Gardiner (Geelong)
Michael Gardiner (West Coast)
Fraser Gehrig (West Coast)
Jason Gram (Brisbane)
Steven King (Geelong)
Stephen Milne (Essendon 2nds)
Michael Rix (Hawthorn 2nds)
Adam Schneider (Sydney)
Jayden Attard (Brisbane)

father son requires 100 plus games and a quick look at games played by saints shows we have many who never quite made the 100

and from past discussions there has been only 1 selection F/S selection by the saints?
or was it two-
S Annand
and ??

Wasn't Ian Stewart's son Ben drafted by us?

Also do you count Steven Lawrence (via Brisbane)?

from memory there was some angst by some to Stevies drafting as his father moved to live in Qld and played in the Qld league to get Stevie drafted BY Lions

we then traded for him?

Lawrence was not a father son for the Saints.

I think Chad Davis may have been our last.

We have more luck from skipped generations with Ball and Goose.,,,but we just had to draft both.

No Grandfather/ Grandosn rule for Ball I am afraid.

Chad Davis was the last father son, didn't play many games, had some toe and could kick a goal, but will probably be most remembered for an incident involving Peter Filandia.
