Topics Of Discussion

Post: # 555315Post SainterX »

1. Apart from Harvs is there any other St Kilda player who can play well at AAMI stadium consistently?
2. Would Sydney really be that unhappy we took Sean Dempster now?
3. If we had 2 Riewoldts and 2 Hudghtons how often would we be beaten?
4. When Warnie gets back from India lets nominate him for President. It would be a nice change having someone with a little less ego in the position ;)
5. When flooding happens in real life people are shocked and appalled, so who is the idiot who thinks it is a good thing in football? Bad teams flood frankly for that very reason, they are bad. We are not. Geelong and Hawthorn don't do it, and we are better than them when we play our natural game.
6. If we win 12 games this year, and it comes down to percentage for the final spots in the 8 how can we guarantee ours is better than the other teams on the same points as us playing this game plan? 3 wins 2 losses before tonight and out % was only 99.6. Our gameplan may work sometimes in shutting teams down, but when it does not we are gonna get punished.
7. Finally, this one for Rossy. Our defenders are good enough to play man on man, they almost always are. Why then do you think Max and Goose and others need Kosi and Roo out there beside them spoiling in unison?
Look at it this way. It is pretty damn hard for any of our forwards to dominate from our backline, or when they are running from end to end the whole game.

There's only one topic we should be discussing this week and that is how did we become so soft?

We have a soft admin, a soft coach and a soft team.

In short, we're SOFT!

Have you noticed lately that everytime the tempo of the game goes up, we actually look the better side, when it slows down, we turn the ball over and look second rate?

That's because our natural game is to freeflow. Losing Hamill, Guerra and Penny doesn't mean our plan should have changed.

Yep and until we change that around we will never ever be a threat to anyone!

Thats a great post and yep something Ive noticed.

I also think it has to deal with many of our players taking preferred first options and playing by instinct when the tempo goes up.
That works well when your opposition also moves it up and is prepared to "open" up a bit - as Port were also in the second half. However, I remember playing Geelongs not so long ago that werent prepared to do that - that FORCED St Kilda to play "think" build up football and they beat us and other sides soon followed suit..... They still are.

Are we simply dumb? or maybe just dont have the foot skills/decision making nous to sort our way through a problem?

When Gram, as an example, launches a mongrel bomb from 60 out I often wonder....how smart are we?

Should have slammed Port tonight. no one likes saying we're soft, but if you were ever going to rectify anything about recent history, it would have been against Port.

No actually, soft isn't right, they just don't have the desperation required; a team wanting a flag would have wasted Port tonight. probably lose there next time too and the time after that, but not because they are soft, they just don't want it badly enough; they won't play for each other

They were not soft..

Lets face it too many of the them were just sloppy.

Look at Ball... is he soft = NO!!! Bit virtually all of his disposals tonight were crap....

First quarter we should have had 2 or 3 goals on the board. We had nil.

thoughout tye game we had poor kicks and shddy handball. Not good enough I am afraid.

A chain is as strong as it's weakest link and we had some very soft players out their tonight.

Soft teams tolerate soft players.

I'm not going to finger indviduals but collectively we are soft.

That must mean the Doggies are a joke too given Brian Lakes miraculous comeback from a hamstring injury the week earlier.
Essendon too given nobody slammed Riewoldt for speaking the truth about Lovett.
West Coast also for not standing up to that c*cksucker Barry Hall.

Seems to me a team is only as strong as its best players, as proven by the way we beat West Coast in Harvs 350th. The weaker players took courage and confidence from the way our leaders played and that lifted their games.

I thought that after hearing about Reiwoldt's speech at last year's AGM dinner , the players weren't going to accept mediocrity or softness.....!?

Toughen the hell up...

Go you good things....!!!
