Leg Speed
How many times did I see Port players run past Saints either in a race to the ball or simply when we were trying to chase them down - which we seemed to do for most of the night. Until we get some genuine pace we are cactus. Perhaps a game plan that doesn't expose our lack of pace by using quick ball movement might help as well. Basically we haven't got the skill to play the game style Ross demands of us - we get burnt constantly. It was a disgustingly painful game to watch and the last 2 games I have seen in the flesh make (Pussy Cats & P#ss Power ) me want to puke.

Rix was useless around the ground as always and other than a shocking push in the back free kick from a boundary throw in i'd say he was competitive in the ruckOne Eyed Saint wrote:Port are a quicker mid field but are look even more so because their ruckmen, UNLIKe OURS tonight, give them easy first posession.
Our mids have to fight harder for 1st possesion because Rix was non-competitive.
100 percent behind the saints 100 percent of the time

Didn't say he was effecive just said he was competitive he was a big body in the contests even if he doesn't no how to use it properlyOne Eyed Saint wrote:If Rix was competitive, how many effective hits-outs did he have?
As much as it s***s me to say it, port have a decent mid field and two very good ruckmen.

Wether you believe in leg speed or not. It certainly would have helped
tonight. It would have being nice to get an easy goal. Actually just having
someone take the opposition on like Rodan did would have been nice to see.

Legspeed not overrated..How many slow players are overlooked on draft day because of no legspeed. Its not the be-all end-all but without it you must be extremely talented.Teflon wrote:didnt look slow 7 goals up against the supposed "quick running Dogs" who are now 5 - zip??
pace overrated see Essendon.

The point is in AFL right now everyone is screaming for leg speed - truth is IMO top foot skills and hardness at/over the ball to extract a possession is far more important.
