no one wanted to see a long term injury but at 22 will he get a last chance? he showed form at casey according to the press?

long term opportunity for charlie gardiner to step up? birss? and CJ?

i know folks have been getting into goose, but only a few weeks back from a long term injury and baker a couple of games to get match hardened

pretty crushing news for some good kids

no doubt the asswipes will be saying we should have traded maguire to geelong when we had the opportunity, but there is NOTHIGN you can do to predict bad luck

Yes and no. Have been without him all year, and have plenty of his type. Dempster, Geary, Birss, etc

Big loss, but at least its not a player in an important position. Will have Attard back maybe middle of year? (or wishfull thinking?).

Finey said that the "word from Moorabbin' was that Goose had breaks or stress fractures in his foot and would be out for an extended period...

and that Bakes hasa PCL...and will be outa minimum of 10 weeks.

My reading of this is that Finey has had some goss from someone at the club as to what the injuries are....but has made his own guesses as to how long players will be out based on what is normal for these types of injuries.

I'm sure Steven Baker's injury occurred in that marking collision where he once again put his body on the line. I don't have the replay but if his big toe was pushed into the ground which extended his knee forward that is how you can get a pcl injury. It is unusual for footballers, except ruckman who crash into other ruckman's knees with the same affect as the usual knee to car dashboard injury. I think this is what Aaron Hamill had when he hit the Geelong player front on with his knee!

Unlike an acl which requires full reconstruction, pcls are usually not operated on, but are more problematic in recovery. Some go well, others persist and end careers. Michael Gardiner had one and after a lot of time finally had an op, so there is someone at the club who can sympathise with Steven.

To the list of injured players, you might want to add Luke Ball.

It is possble that after the players gave everything for the win, that we lose four for the season in one match. Now there is a record that no other team could beat!

Gutsy effort from

a) Bakes - got crunched in the marking contest (Dim Lane only mentioned how courageous the Tigers player was).

b) Goose was limping and pointing to his foot in qtr 3. Played the whole 4th qtr with stress fractures in his foot by the sounds of it. A bit like Sam Fisher in 2005.

Hope nobody doubts he courage of these two players.

Max to come back in. King to come back in. We have Fisher to tag, or possibly Geary, or Allen.

Ferguson heed to be given a go.

Time or some of the young ones to step up.

THis has nothing to do with those managing. Baker hurt himself in the collision - Lyon said it this morning. Goose has bad feet that can just go. ight have got stepped on for all we know.

You can’t. It wasn't a criticism of the incumbents.

I thought we did well to win last night. The defence was under the pump well before the injuries kicked in.
I thought the midfield and forwards (including G) did really well to outscore the t***rs.
I wasn’t rapt walking out of the ground but when you think about it we won a difficult game for coaches and players,

All three injuries are pretty hard to avoid, especially Riewoldt and Baker if it did in fact occur in that collision. We've done ok with soft tissue injuries with four (Max, Gardiner, Schneider, X. Clarke) by memory. Suprisingly, of these four, only 1 has occurred in a match, with the other three either from training or soreness which is a touch worrying.

Unfortunately, it probably does. But with Schneider, Gardiner and Max I was under the impression that it was soreness nd tightness and not a tear. But when Schneider and Gardiner were out for 3-4 weeks I then thought it was a tear. I hope Max doesn't go the same way as those two. But is anyone know what the situations where with them?
