Players are not mentally strong enough to win a Premiership

Post: # 573503Post older saint »

After watching todays game StKilda will be no more than a middle of the raod team as they have too many players who are down hill skiers and not mentally able to work hard when things are against them.
The problem too is that many of these players are the middle rung which any side requires to stand up to win a Premiership.

Montagna, Dal Santo, X Clarke , Gram, are all players which do not work hard enough off the ball and really needed to become stars of the comp for StKilda to become serious contenders. They have the ability when things go well but too often disappear either heavy tag or things tough.

Compare these to say Geelong players such as Kelly, Enright, Worjinski, Corey. 2 years ago they were fringe or regular players but not stars, all have now raised the bar worked hard and become stars .

On problem is our best 2 midfielders are on thge wrong side of 30, Hayes and Harvey.

We also badly need a medium size marking options across half forward - either Ferguson, Allen , C Gardiner (When Gehrig isn't there) or R Clarke must be given a chance at that role and it will open up Riewoldt and Kosi and Milne more.
Recruiting has been poor at best with many role players recruited who have poor skills, - Birrs , Jones, etc

Unfortunately the usual suspects will cop the grief be it - Fiora, Blake, etc or Kosi , Milne , Ross Lyon- while the underlying problem does not change.

We will win some and finish around 6-10 but not do any real damage due to a basic lack of mental fortitude and therefore not nbatural development from within the list

There just not playing like a team. No confidence. A bunch of individuals who you would've thought after today, had never had anything to do with each other. And to lose to Brisbane like that-not Geelong-just shameful.
