Pick your worst ever saints team!

Post: # 584580Post the shadow »

I thought I might liven things up a bit seeing as most loyal sainters are feeling a bit flat at the moment. Just a bit of fun I had with some mates the other night. As long suffering sainters, who saw our fair share of games in the 80's, we came up with our worst ever side (post 1980). Only qualifications were the players had to have played at least one senior game (Rules out Greg Dax, the guy we recruited because he won the Wycheproof "King of the Mountain" 3 years running. Good at carrying sacks of wheat up a steep incline, not so great at football!), and must have played between now and 1980.

If you think we are not travelling well at the moment, cast your minds back to when those mentioned below were running around in the red white and black! Things could be worse! I challenge anyone out there to come up with a saints team that could be beaten by this collection!

B: Cowie Pirrie Park
HB Lister Windbanks Greetham
C: Hanson Amoore Greg Sharp
HF: McNicholl Capsalis Rohan Smith
F: Misso Arnol Malcolm Smith
R Godsell Discher
Rov Jenkins

I/C: Fred Campbell Thornborrow Faletic Kitchen
Emergencies: Brooks Frost Nugent
Coach: Graham Gellie (Be hard, be strong, be like me; my name is Gellie!)

Run like Ditterich, arms flailing, cause fear in the enemy, make fellow saints walk tall!

I would replace Park with "Bertie Keeble".

If you are referring to Neil Park he was actually very talented footballer where I think Bert Keeble may have played in three losses in a row over 100pts. In the back pocket.

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Yes, but Rohan Smith was an out and out legend in the SANFL, very talented...but sadly totally crap at St Kilda.

Lawrence Bingham and Jodie Arnol would have to get a run?

We had some pretty bad players play for us through the late 70s early 80s...

How could ant Saints 'worst' team not include

Tim Elliott
Russell Tweedale/Alby Smedts (always considered together because they were the perfect trade - neither club got better than what they gave up!)
Michael Frost
Matthew Crapuano (a premiership player to boot!)

Rohan Smith and Faletic are a bit unlucky. I actually thought they both could play. Alan Jenkin was all right too.

Would like to see Paul Tilley and Chris Hemley in there. David Strooper would have to be a chance.

Brooks has to be a walk up start after that performance in Tassie.

hey add Mordechai Bromberger, smart guy, crap player.
How about making a composite crap player such as:
Kicking Skills of Jason Daniels
Height of Paul Callory
Defensive abilities of Fraser Gherig
Courage of Aaron Fiora
Cool football intelligence of Robbie Muir
Dilligence of Rod Owen
Love of the club of Tony Lockett

Don't know what yuou were watching but Mordy was a much better player than the others mentioned in this thread so far.

He was basically a back-pocket player that later on had a run as ruck-rover.

IIRC he won a TV for best on ground in one of our night games?

Since i was born in 88 ill go by the duds i have seen play over the years.

B C.Davis M.Gale S.Cranage
HB J.Plapp T.Elliot J.Gowans
C J.Elliot S.Charles F.Cambell
HF D.Healy B.Cook A.Murray
F Trinidis B.Brooks D.Wulf
R Crapouano McGough T.Delany

Int Ackland K.Bardsley L.Beveridge R.Powell
Emg T.Knobel J.Daniels S.Sziller
Coach - Tim Watson

How would this team fare against essendon of 2000, carlton of 95, geelong of 2007 or Brisbane of 01,02,03??
Scary isnt it!!!!!

I guess one way of looking at it though, is that they have played more games of AFL than i ever will or anyone else on this forum, so good on them. But at the same time, why put us through so much hell seeing them go about their business and put shame to the red, white and black!!

The sad thing is, these were the players that came so quickly to mind and didnt require much thought, and a lot of them actually played together   eg. Davis, Capuano, T.Elliot, Plapp, S.Charles, F.Cambell

People, there has to be a place for Fergus Watts, only got selected because of his father.
Why can't St.Kilda people produce decent offspring?

Wasn't given much of an opportunity (1 game), he's ripping it up in the amateur league, seems like he's kicked 8 goals every game so far this year. His brother is highly rated for this years draft, top 5 quality.

With the same injury prone genetics, would be advised to avoid.

I'm not a genetecist, but just take a look at the time the Clarke Brothers have spent on the sidelines.

May not be stars but these guys weren't that bad and don't deserve to be there

Instead
Put Gavin Mitchell in the pocket
Ben Walton on the ball
Caydn Beetham in the pocket

Surely the two hacks that we got from carlton for Val Perovic have to be in the side. I think their names were Jez and Fitzpatrick. What a brilliant trade that was!!!!!
What about Simon Meehan, Danny "midget" Craven, Tony Antrobus, Glen Middlemiss, Doug Booth.....the list is endless!!!!
