Saints giving out members phone numbers?

Post: # 594261Post Saintschampions08 »

Just got a call from "Origin Energy on behalf of the St Kilda Football Club" asking me if i'd like to listen, and buy into their plans...

Anyone else have this happen? :?

I got AGL- two weeks running - second apologising because they had gotten their figures wrong- after they had been in the press for doing just that and misleading quite a number of pensioners
my worry was they also got my dad but thankfully he realised and sent it back in the 7 day cool off

<shrug> i did the charity raffle for the RVIB, got phones calls from 20 charities in the next 2 weeks.

i don't mind helping out, but I have (or had) a full time job and a family, i am not a fully time charity worker.

would they pay me enough to cover the mortgage and a bit left over to take the kids out now and again I would love to do charity work, but that isn't going to happen soon.

the club whether you like it or not, is a business proposition, thats why despite 30k fans first dibs to GF tickets go to the corporates and then to the coterie fund raising groups.

reward not the loyal fan who has tipped in 20 years worth of memberships or ticket money but to the corporate who tipped in $$$ for the year.

your telephone number is worth 30cents to the club, 30,000 numbers-=10,000

for every hit, the club would get a bonus.

(im guessing the numbers here but I do know they sell phone lists)

your gonna have to live with it Im afraid.

I got the call too (and I ticked NO) very annoying but I use a trick I picked up watching a TV show, I think it was Sinfeld.

I simply say im currently busy and ask for their contact number, full name, staff id number and full address details so I can call back later on, when they hesitate (which they ALWAYS do) I go for the kill and say "so do you not want to be bothered when you are busy? Well no you know how I feel" and hang up. It has worked many a time.

If that doesnt work you can always yell NO over and over again till they give up, that one works better for "in person" sellers like WWF or the childrens fund ones you see at shopping centers.

Think of it this way. When you tell the telemarketer where to stick it, you've made a contribution to the clubs coffers. Compared to how hard you worked to earn the money for the membership, the 2 seconds it takes to hang up the phone barely register. :)

I hate getting calls from telemarketers, but I do have sympathy for anyone doing that crappy job. I do wonder at times who the people are that actually buy from telemarketers making that kind of list aquisition a profit exercise...

I work in a call centre for a company who is a major sponsor of the saints.
Yes it is a crappy job but please don't feel sorry for me cause the pay here is unberlievable.
Highest paying job I have ever had.

People dont need to give excuses just hang up as they are calling quite a few numbers at the same time and never call back.

But the point remains about our privacy.

I put my mobile phone number only on most things when its essential to the form im completing, never had a telemaketing call as the cost must be too high

Easy to handle -
Answer phone say hello - if no reply in 3 seconds or you hear the chatter of a 100 other telemarketers in the back ground ............

HANG UP!

or

Keep answering machine on and just screen calls they usally hang up.

Guys the trick is to say not interested and then ask to be taken off their calling lists, then they can never call you again.

If you just hang up they will continue to call you!!!!

I understand call centre work is hard (I work in one after all) but I dont want to be sold things over the phone that I dont want during my dinner time.

Sorry if that makes me rude or irrational or "missing out" as one gentleman so kindly put after attempting to sell me a mobile phone contract.

Simply saying NO and dont call me again wont stop them, they can call 3 times in a 7 day period. Any more than that and its harrasment.
