Hypothetical - Round 22

Post: # 608053Post Newman »

We're in 7th spot, Brisbane is in 6th spot. Collingwood is 5th, Kangaroos 8th.

IF we win (neat Essendon) we finish 7th, Brisbane 6th - and in first week of finals we play Brisbane at our favourite ground the GABBA.

Lose and we finish 8th and have to play Collingwood at MCG.

It's 3/4 time and St Kilda and Essendon are neck and neck - WHAT RESULT would you like in last q? And would Ross ever 'suggest' that they lose so that they don't go to Gabba??

Your thoughts. (I say, I hope they'd lose.)

Excellent question....and one that will stay relevant forever..

WIll bne especially relevant for us this year as we are the last game of the round

Is playing the 5th team interstate actually less preferable to playing the 4th team in Melbourne?

The massive home ground advantage of Interstate Clubs is a definate anomaly in the Finals system in the first week.

Another scenario (that wont happen this year) is the Crows/Power or Eagles/Dockers getting to play their fellow SA/WA'ers in a final shoulod they lose....but have to travel if they win

Absolutely agree and highlights the anomaly of the finals system.
I would rather play at the MCG against a very beatable Pies but would not want to give up the winning culture.
A loss going in to the finals is not good for team morale.

Many sports around the world have Home and Away legs to neutralise home ground advantages. Not an option in the AFL

I think Max, Lenny and Roo might all have to come off as a precaution to make sure their hamstring tightness doesn't become more serious in that scenario.

Considering Brisbane are crud at the moment, and look like staying that way, sure. Brissy.

Dont think I could hack Harves playing his lsat game in Brissy though, so I'd opt the loss and see him play in front of 100k at the G.
