Stephen Milne arrived back in Melbourne last night and following assessment by Club doctors had minor surgery this morning on his fractured cheekbone.

He is expected to recover quickly and has been selected in team for this Sunday’s game against Adelaide, subject to assessment over the next 48 hours.

Matthew Drain, General Manager Football Operations said, “Stephen has recovered well and after careful consideration by the doctors may be able to play this weekend.â€

I'd love to see Milney out there on Sunday. :D

But it would be a miracle wouldn't it? :?

Let's face it, they could send out the elephant man in 44 and we still wouldn't be sure it wasn't Milney atm.

FREMANTLE defender Antoni Grover will miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery on Thursday morning.

The club released a statement saying that it was in Grover’s best inerests to have surgery immediatly to give him every oppurtunity to prepare for 2009.

The 27 year old is expected to make a full recovery within 12 weeks while the Dockes have named experienced pair Des Headland and Josh Carr for their clash with Richmond at the MCG.

MIRACLE RECOVERY FOR MILNE
Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 7:19 pmBY TREVOR BYERS

ST KILDA have named Stephen Milne less than a week after he suffered a fractured cheekbone against Fremantle at Subiaco.

Milne’s injury was so severe that he was unable to fly back with teammates, instead having to endure a 3,000km drive back to Melbourne where he arrived last night.

Milne underwent minor surgery on his fractured cheek this morning and will be closely monitored within the next 48 hours to see whether he will line-up against Adelaide on Sunday.

Stephen Milne has been named for the Saints
ST KILDA captain Nick Riewoldt says injured small forward Stephen Milne is on track to play in Sunday’s must-win clash with Adelaide.

Milne cracked his cheekbone early in last Sunday’s belting of Fremantle but played a significant part in the result despite the injury.

The skipper said Milne's courage was something nobody around the club doubted.

"We certainly have (seen it before) – he was in a very similar position three weeks ago when we played at Subiaco – he suffered a similar facial injury, had surgery and then played the next week.

"We were aware of that, it's terrific courage, and it sets the standard for the rest of the team."

And football manager Matthew Drain later said Milne proved his fitness at a closed training session at Moorabbin and would almost certainly line up against Adelaide at Telstra Dome six days after the collision.

His second highest possessions for the year (20)
His highest marks for the year (10)
Kicked his average two goals
Needs 3 next week to get to 50 for the year

With what he's been through the last few weeks, but particularly with what occurred this week, an incredible effort.

You make me cringe and look away sometimes with your play Milney, but don't change one thing please.

RESPECT.

Is he any chance of AA selection? people always talk about Motlop and Medhurst, but he's kicked about the same amount of goals as them despite missing a couple of weeks...

Milney couldn't get AA when he kicked 60 for the year.. they tend to not really pick small forwards anyway, just stock up on the power forwards. They'll probably wack a Brad Johnson or someone in.
I am so sick of hearing about bloody Paul Medhurst geez if Milney got half the raves that idiot gets honestly! People go on and one about his great year when hello, Milney's kicked 47 goals. so over it honestly.

Great game Milney, what a return after such a messed up week.
