When was the last time we traded a favourite?

Post: # 652760Post Saintgaz »

I've been reading the posts about trading Dal and Kosi with interest. WHilst I'd like to see them perform to what they're capable of in years to come surely the club would be considering their value to the team. It would be due diligence to do this with all players.
But I'm trying to remember the last time we traded someone we really liked, rather than getting rid of someone who was no good, or trading someone who wanted to go elsewhere.
Jake Niall wrote earlier in the week about us taking a leap of faith in recruiting. If either of Dal or Kosi were traded it would be just such a leap and highly unpopular.
But it doesn't seem like we have a history of doing this, so maybe history will continue or we'll change our tune?

One day it's all got to be worth it.
Right????

Guerra? Or was he a delist? Hardly a favorite son, I know.

Lockett was more a 'I wanna leave' kind of situation, wasn't it...

Nup. Got me stumped...

Yeah I thought we delisted Guerra.
Lockett wanted to go. Hall did to.

Yeah you probably would have to go back that far.

What was the story with David Grant leaving? He was a bit of a favourite son.

Surely Lappin's the most recent. Might be onto something there.

Joel Smith?

Generally favouries (well ones on Fan Forums anyway!) are players who are playing good footy, so therefore dont get delisted/traded.

Hard to compare to previous era's I reckon, because the tools for mass venting/protest/chest beating ie the Internet, were not there.

Also the processes and rationales involves in trades/delistings etc have changed over time

Definitely Russell Greene.

He woke up on a Saturday morning match day and was told to go to Hawthorn.

I remember turning up at Moorabbin for the game and wondering who this bloke in Greene's jumper was? It was Mark Scott.

I was absolutely spitting chips when David Grant left Moorabbin. He was the definition of underrated.

I was pretty disappointed when we traded Barry Hall. He was a favorite of mine.

We put a lot of work into him for Sydney.

David Grant, Matty Lappin, D Wakelin, Lockett were all faves...

Joel was another one - he was popilar - but I didn't like him that much.

Some used to like Craig O'Brien a fair bit.

Joel Smith wasn't traded as much as out of contract and decided to walk (or hobble as he was on crutches). I'm pretty sure we got nothing for him and he went to the Hawks in the preseason draft.

Ricey was the ONLY good thing that ever came out of Carlton winning the Flag in 95.

not 100% but thought he was delisted.
Can you believe after all the controversy Collingwood were VERY interested.
Wasnt treated too well by the dogs either.
For favourites how about Dean Rice?
I hated/admired carlton for taking a punt on a knee injury prone player...twice. He of course rewarded the club and himself with a premiership medal
On a similar theme hawthorn for Joel Smith He went on to finish a pretty stella career with them.
