PLAYER SPONSORSHIP 2009 - Who should we Sponsor?

Post: # 672132Post Mr Magic »

I have just received information from the Club about the Player's Sponsorship program for next season.

As exising sponsors we have first right of refusal to renew our sponsorship of Gilbert and Geary for next year, but we only have until 5pm Monday, November 17 to do so (we don't have to pay, just commit to the Club). We also have the right to pick any other player on the list by that time.

The Club has broken the playing list into 3 categories
Leadership - cost $1950 (incl gst) per player
Core - cost $1500 (incl gst) per player
Development - cost $1050 (incl gst) per player

Those players listed as 'Leadership' ($1950) are:-
Reiwoldt
Hayes
Ball
Hudghton
Goddard
Sam Fisher
Montagna
Kozsitshke
Dal Santo
Milne
Gram

Those players listed as 'Development' ($1050) are:-
Howard
Steven
Allan
Connors
Eddy
Miles
Karetuku
McGrath

All other players currently on the list are listed as 'Core' ($1500). Any players picked up in the drafts will be added to the list, most likely as 'development' (other than BC if we take him?)

The following players did not have sponsors in 2008:-
Raph Clarke
Dempster
Blake
Connors
McQualter
Miles
Eddy
Baker

whilst some others (including Sam Gilbert) had multiple sponsors.

If we renew our 2 players then the cost to us will be $2550 (less than last year by $300) which is still divisible into $15 shares.

I'm happy to go along with the majority on which/how many players we sponsor for next season, and I'm happy to organize the payment as per last season.

My own view is that if we decided to go for 'Development' players next season we could aim to sponsor 3 players for 2009 at a cost of $3150 (210 shares at $15 each)

PRIZES (for each sponsored player)
2 x tickets to Season Launch Dinner
2 x tickets to B&F
2 x tickets to Match Day Experience
1 x piece Memorabilia
Recognition on Saints.com

We need thoughts on which way to proceed.

Yeah Raph Clarke will definitely find a sponsor next year.

IMO we MUST sponsor Steven, it would also be great to get Allen and nother player on board, perhaps an Irish recruit?

As an idea given the enthusiastic response from last year, why not go for one core e.g. raph clarke (as further encouragement after showing us positive signs in late 08) and the up-and-coming Jack Steven? That is $2550 ... and IF we reach that total, we then consider raising funds for another development player ... either Conners, Allen OR our first draft pick?

Yep..i think thats a great idea....although perhaps showing loyalty to Gilbo and Geary has merit too

As above, I like that idea.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'd rather Jason Blake, it's a shame that the player who finished 10th in our best and fairest wasn't sponsored

I would love for us to sponsor;

RAPH CLARKE & JACK STEVEN

Count me in for the same as last year; or a little bit more !!

I agree with the suggestion of one core and one development player. If the issue is oversubscribed then we take another player in the development group.

Don't think we should be suggesting names on this thread. Last year we voted by poll; can we do that again this season?

I believe the Club would have no problem with us selecting to sponsor a player who ahd no sponsor last year (Raph, Blake etc).

The onloy thing is we need to let them know by 5pm on Monday.

So far there seems to be a trend in going for 1 'Core' and 1 'Development' player with teh option of taking another 'Development' if the demand is strong.

Given that trend continues may I suggest we keep suggestions coming until Saturday and then whichever Mod/Administrator has the ability to do so can put up a poll for each of the 2 options - 'Core' and 'Development'

I think that we should put both Gilbert and Geary up as options in the 'Core' group so that those who wish to vote for sponsoring the same as this year can do so.

Raph and Jack are just the players the Saints need to go forward.

I haven't been involved in sponsoring a player in the past, but am more than happy to to encourage these 2 youngsters.

Count me in.

the tweeking from last year appear to be
# larger leadership group- maybe all the players who were sponsored X 3 last year
#reduced prices on "core" and "development" group sponsorship ( $100 on core and $200 on dev't) making them even more attractive as options.
#no sponsors only dinner- REPLACED with Season Launch tickets which will be a less intimate affair.
# no sponsors name on Locker- which no one really saw but the players :)

value is still there -BY the double if you take a dev't player-
from rough estimates-based on previous years costs of events (I've assumed base prices these can be worth much more )

2 x tickets to Season Launch Dinner _ from ~$150 per ticket = $300 -
2 x tickets to B&F _ ~ $ 200 per ticket = $400
2 x tickets to Match Day Experience _ ~ $150 per ticket = $300
1 x piece Memorabilia _~ Signed jumper- Framed = $500- $700
Recognition on Saints.com
at a very minimum value is $1,500 ........................

I think we should just keep this particular thread to suggestiond as to how many and which players we should sponsor.

Once decided I think we should then run a separate thread for commitment to shares.

dempster and cousins

dempster is so valuable already to our side despite his acl injury - hopefully he will come back as good if not better than his performances this season once he got over his initial injury hurdle

and ben cousins because the man is god of the football field

BC has "20-30" sponsors ready to take him on if he becomes a Saint...

Either renew our sponsorship or go with the core + development players I reckon.
