Finals Experience List 2009

Post: # 724650Post bergholt »

Do we have enough finals experience to prosper at the other end of the season, or are we peaking too early?

Here's the whole list with their number of finals games and number of games total.

Schneider: 15, 120
Hudghton: 13, 227
King: 13, 218
Riewoldt: 9, 161
Dal Santo: 9, 147
Gardiner: 9, 141
Hayes: 8, 194
Milne: 8, 168
Blake: 8, 139
Goddard: 8, 116
Dempster: 8, 73
Koschitzke: 7, 122
Baker: 6, 157
Ball: 6, 125
Montagna: 6, 101
Clarke, R: 6, 42
Fisher, S: 5, 99
Gwilt: 5, 29
Clarke, X: 4, 105
Maguire: 4, 99
Gram: 4, 80
Ray: 3, 78
Gilbert: 3, 42
McQualter: 3, 38
Jones: 3, 29
Eddy: 3, 13
Armitage: 2, 16
Fisher, L: 1, 55
Allen: 1, 4
Begley: 0, 29
Dawson: 0, 17
Geary: 0, 13
Howard: 0, 2
McEvoy: 0, 1
Cahill, Connors, Gaertner, Haretuku, Heyne, Lynch, McGarry, McGrath, Miles, Simpkin, Smith, Stanley, Steven, Tungatalum: 0 games

Total finals games played: 180
Average finals games played (excl rookie list): 4.62
Average finals games played (incl rookie list): 3.75

That looks pretty good, doesn't it? We should definitely know how to succeed under pressure in finals.

That list actually shows you how many times we have gone into the finals with injury problems. 5 0r 6 guys there who have a final to total games comparison which is more than 1 final to every 10 games played. Ie very inexperienced players getting selected in finals.

Allen, Eddy, CJ, Gwilt, R Clarke, Dempster(not all with us) and Armitage.

Interesting

Maybe this year?

I am based in NSW and there are alot of the local Swans fans that are absolutely spewing about Schneider leaving the Swans. In my opinion, he has been a great pick up and knows where the goals are. Will be a finals strength for us - experience and a cool head and as said before, knows where the goals are.

make no mistake, come september RL will count his blessings that a lot of these guys have played some serious finals football with campaigns lasting deep into september under GT.
Don't get me wrong, in my eyes seasons 2004-5 and to a lesser extent 06 were a serious of wasted opportunities (04 in particular IMO we were clearly the best team), but we're stronger for the experience.
