Smith on AFL Teams

Post: # 732469Post saintluke »

Not sure if anyone else caught Rohan Smith's preview of our game this weekend on AFL Teams but it was a classic. I know he was a 300 gamer for the Dogs, but he needs to remove himself from the team now that he's had two years in the media.

He said:
- Dale Morris NEVER gets beaten, never ever (Fev kicked 3 on him last week, I think)
- Dogs will not let the Saints defense handle the ball as they wish, just won't happen
- Dogs will bounce back and win... because they need to after two horrible weeks.
- And he kept referring to our Rd 3 clash last year when we imploded after a great start to illustrate how good the Dogs are.

I think it will be a tough test for our boys, but I'm confident if we continue playing as we have so far in 09 we will have the goods to dispose of the dogs. Pressure the hard ball contests and pressure the ball carriers. Dogs have been shocking with disposal efficiency and turn overs the last two weeks, we have the tackling skill to put them under those same conditions.

Enjoy your weekend and C'Mon Saints!

Hmmmm...yes, but the last time I scoffed loudly at this kind of one-eyed optimism was Dermott Breretton's reasons as to why the Hawks were going to beat us by 70 points in last years prelim!

the only thing funnier than sheahans tips is watching him jump on and off bandwagons from week to week. Does he think nooone notices?
Take carlton for example

Round 2- Real Deal

Round 3- Reality Check

Round 5- Blues are back

Its ridiculous, and you can bet that if we lose he'll be the first to criticise us!

Quite a few from Hun have tipped Bulldogs. Stick with
The Age. They go for us.

I have no problem with the majority of the media tipping against us. Despite our favourism, logic would suggest that the dogs are screaming for a rebound. That and our form against them from the previous two rounds.

Frankly, the more the media don't rate us, the happier I am. Even though we deserve our favourism, the more we are under the radar, the better.

I might even be a bit happier if we weren't favourites!

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Well the money says we are.
I just saw a bookie (Gerard Daffy?) on ch10 News state that there is lots of money for St Kilda and we are firming.

He also stated somebody put $10000 pn NDS for teh Brownlow at 20 to 1.

Unless that punter has plans to take out Ablett's knees, he might as well just set that money on fire. They won't be such great odds when he's staring at a $10K hole in his wallet.

Don't know about others, but while I've tipped St Kilda as the form side, I'm very unsure of that tip.

In that R3 clash we're dissmissing (and fair enough IMO, there's some serious difference), we won the tackle count, our hallmark so far, and it made no difference. FWIW, we won the hitouts too, but got smashed in the clearances after quarter time.

The differences IMO are:
1) Gardiner's playing - and playing extremely well.
2) As good as the doggies wer after Q1, we made very bad decisions, regularly bombing long from no man's land in the centre square where they had numbers back... right now we're handballing through those situations with accuracy and confidence.

There are 3 teams I want to beat - Hawthorn, the Bulldogs and Geelong. Those are the wins that tell us we're a genuine threat. 2 of those 3 have also impugned on what was our ownership of Telstra Dome... this is a chance to claim Etihad as ours.

Yeah, and considering this will be Ablett's 3rd Brownlow medal win.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. that's right...

Maybe he should have done the logically thing and put it on Cooney!

I take it that you have never incured the wrath of Dal_Santos_Gal.  Its her money on #26 and she will kneecap both you and Ablett (and probably me), if that's what it takes   !!

Nope not even mathematically.

So winning is up to the teams, nothing else.

Cameron Noakes in The Age yesterday said that you have to remember that Ablett's odds were exactly the same this time last year.

Funny thing was yesterday morning on SEN, some bloke rang in and mentioned that Sheehan gets his stories from talk back callers.

He basically said he listens to shows like SEN all night, waits for a caller to make an opinion, then he runs with it the next day and claims it as his own story/opinion.

It was just speculation, but makes you think.

Even at half time he was defending him, his brilliant ability to force Rooey out wide.

There's passion then there's professionalism, they must be seperated.
