The thing that killed the bombres yesterday was pace.
Some of their young guys have phenomenal pace, but if you try to kick at that speed you more often than not turn the ball over. Missing targets going forward yesterday resulted in goals to us, the attack at breakneck speed philosophy is ok but you need to slow and make sure you use the resulting disposal. Running flat out for fifty metres means jack sh...eet if you only get to stand knackered gasping for breath watching the ball kicked straight back to where you just ran it from.
There are a few class players in their side, but most are run of the mill at the moment.
On second viewing...what's the big deal?

All have/had genuine pace. Granted, Crouch was a terrible player but was never beaten for pace. That, along with his ability to run-with, gave him a career.
Hawthorn: Rioli, Young, Bateman, Buddy (no reason why we can't include Buddy, pace is just as valuable in the forward line as it is anywhere else)
Geelong: Wojinski, Byrnes, Ablett
Port Adelaide: Pickett, Schofield, Shaun Burgoyne
Eagles: Judd, Kerr
We're not exactly short on pace either. Ray, Jones, Joey, Gram...
I'm not one of those complaining about yesterday's win. You can't play perfect footy every weekend and the difference between the very good and the ordinary is the ability to grind out wins when it's just not happening, as we did.
I'm just making the point that all successful footy sides have that element of pace.
In fact, you could say there isn't an AFL side in the country without an element of pace because every club, coach, recruiting manager is well aware of how important it is. There is no substitute.

intresting stuff about the Dogs made in previous posts
Made me think about the Dogs match last year ....Some similarities ...especially our 1st Q tearaway, but look what happened to us then when the Dogs got their fast running game going !!!
We have come a long way as a side since then when you look at last nights game We stuck to the game plan well and considering the significant fact of their 9 day rested legs c/f our slower 6 day ones we did good and got a well deserved 4 points !
And we can go to school on a few aspects out of the game which won't hurt either

Who is the better player? Chris Judd now or Chris Judd in 2004/05? Chris Judd without his acceleration is not the same player. Yes, he's still a gun but has become more of an inside player. At his best he was inside/outside. He'd win the hard ball and then burst away. Now he wins the hard ball and looks to give as he doesn't have the same explosiveness off the mark.
If you had a game between 22 Chris Judd's 04/05 or 22 Chris Judd's 08/09, who would come out on top?
22 Cyril Rioli's and 22 Sam Mitchell's?
22 Shaun Burgoyne's or 22 Kane Cornes'?

The point is, what would happen to that blistering pace should the players bulk up. Pace is all well and good but with it often comes a lighter body which gets found out under finals pressure. There are very few bigger bodied players who are really pacy.
