% Accuracy in Front of the Big Sticks

Post: # 749899Post Devilhead »

There has been a lot of talk with regards to our shooting accuracy

Well a couple of quick calculations revels that we are sitting 5th on the % goal shooting accuracy table

(this however does not include shots for goal that went OOB)

Brisbane - 137.86 - 61.4%
Sydney - 138.96 - 58.9%
Hawthorn - 141.102 - 58.0%
West Bulldogs - 155.119 - 56.5%
St Kilda - 156.121 - 56.3%
Melbourne - 109.86 - 55.9%
Carlton - 153.121 - 55.8%
Geelong - 174.150 - 53.7%
Adelaide - 125.108 - 53.6%
North Melbourne - 115.100 - 53.5%
Fremantle - 120.111 - 51.9%
Port Adelaide - 137.129 - 51.5%
Essendon - 128.123 - 51.0%
Richmond - 121.120 - 50.2%
Collingwood - 128.130 - 49.6%
West Coast - 120.128- 48.4%

Only twice this year have we kicked more points than goals

Westen Bulldogs - 14.20
Melbourne - 11.17

We are also sitting last with regards to % accuracy against (good thing)

In total teams have kicked 82.84 against us - 49.4% conversion rate

At the other end is Geelong (ranked 2nd behind Port) - 115.78 - against Geelong teams have a 60% conversion rate

In general we have been fairly good in front of the sticks this year on the other hand our opponents have been fairly awful when shooting at goal and this could be due to the pressure we apply in our defensive zone

anyway lets hope it stays this way

thanks for those. we're doing better than i expected, though i expect that percentage has dropped off a bit in the past few weeks.

someone had percentages up for individual players but i can't remember the thread.

The fact we are last in scoring accuracy against suggests we don't let teams stream down the corridors, they gotta get their kicks in the pockets perhaps.

That or teams playing Geelong suddenly have the best kicking days of their lives

In the last 3 weeks (Ess, Bris, Mel) we have kicked 38.42 - 47.5%

Before that (first 7 weeks) we kicked 118.79 - 59.9%

So yes BC you are right in that the last 3 games have dropped our accuracy %

It is actually quite scary to think that even though Geelong are ranked 2nd in the % conversion rate against and mid-table in their % conversion rate for they are still cruising along undefeated

That's the point that gets me ... the last 3 weeks our accuracy has been down.

A few reasons?
1. We're tired and the players skills aren't as sharp
2. We have been having our shots from sharper angles due to playing slightly more indirect football
3. We have played better sides who have put more pressure on us
