Ben Cousins would slot nicely into our midfield rotations right about now in say Geary or McQualter's spot

Geary and McQualter are playing well, plus they still have room for improvement.

I think players like Geary, Mini and even Dal, Ball and Joey wouldn't be playing the football they are now, because they might just look to Cousins being the link in a chain that will just automatically fire when he slots in.

Geez, I hope we win on Sunday. Why do I get the feeling that this forum will be slammed with "should have got Cuz" threads if the unthinkable upset happens!

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Let's go on hypotheticals and the butterfly effect on this...

Cuz plays round 1 for us. In spot of McQualters.
Raph does hammy,so does Cuz. Down to two on the bench.
McQualters game breaking goal in the third is never kicked,as Cuz has his spot, and he's sitting on the pine with a torn Hammy.
With only 2 on the bench we try hard all night to bridge the 5 goal gap Sydney opened up with, but we run out of legs without enough rotation options.
Sydney hold on by 8 points. The team is deflated after round 1

Travel to football park in round 2 with zero confidence. We put in our usual(pre 09 juggernaut) lack of confidence interstate effort, and get rolled by 7 goals by an ugly crows outfit.
Dal is playing more like he's in an audition for so you think you can dance skirting outside the packs. Kosi is moping around the forward line and the bench with his head down wondering why the world is against him.
Rewoildt misses 4 set shots from 25-35 out,and he starts looking to handpass at every opportunity.Milne is held kickless interstate again

0-2 start to the season.
Lyon wields the axe. Dal Santo dropped ala 08. Gilbert who struggled all through 08 has been dropped in an attempt to find his 07 form. He breaks his leg in the two's that week and will miss 12.

Lyon decides to flood the contest and try and choke the life out of West Coast. We register our first win of the year, winning 9.10.64 to 7.8.50. Most of the 16,785 fans walk away scratching there head at witnessing some more of early 08's snooze fest.
Because of the heavy flood and uncertainty amongst the playing group, they start corralling again. Lenny Hayes hates this, but he's the ultimate pro so he plays to instruction. However his frustration gets to him and he throws a punch at Kerr and cops a 3 week suspension.

Word filters in the next day that Dal only has 11 touches for Sandi and rumours are rife he'll be at Essendon next year.

We happen to beat freo next in round 4,again another ugly match ,like some of the 08 wins that seemed like losses. Kosi's horror form has continued,he looks set to be dropped.

Round 5 Port at AAMi. Nothing unusual here, another 67 point walloping by the Power. They're players throw ours around like rag dolls. Chad Cornes has 36 possesions and takes 15 marks. Pearce kicks 5
We only manage 1 goal after half time.
The rumblings about Lyon get louder

Round 6-
A fast and highly skilled bulldog side are too much for the corralling negative saints. A 57 point loss,Aker kicks 5. Rewoildt kicks 1.6 and starts abusing some of our players on the field.
Only 23,234 turn up,most of them dog supporters.

Round 7- Collingwood destroy us on monday night at the Dome, they jump us. We have no avenue forward,we corral our opponents continually, chip backwards with no vision of actually going forward. The team is now a shambles, arguments on the ground, discussions with opposition clubs behind the scenes, most want out.

Mid week wednesday Ross Lyon is dramatically sacked by Westaway due to the disunity in the team, lack of entertainment provided to the supporters and being 2-5 and languishing 3rd last.

Thursday- Ken Sheldon is reappointed as caretaker coach. He introduces a system when any player that turns up late to training they are fined, like he did in 90. Gards doesn't show ..something about a tip off about the random drug testers. He and Benny are seen staggering out of Revolver the next morning at 8.43am,with Tuppence Moran.

The losses continue.

Round 10 verse the demons at Carrara,we are smashed by the hapless demons by 81 points. Rewoildt decides not to get the flight home with the team, infact he's decided to quit the club and live back on the Gold Coast and resume playing in 2012 for the coasters.

Leigh Fisher is made captain

9412 people turn up for the game against North, dools is the only member of the cheer squad left, and half way through the second he gives up and walks down to the other end and joins the North cheer squad and joins in with there chants.

1 week later Westaway pulls the pin on Stkilda's license in the AFL,and says we're relocating to Tasmania in 2010. We forfiet the rest of the season.

november 2009 the Tasmanian governement says they'd rather be without a side than have the saints represent there state, and the StKilda.F.C is sent to it's death.

The fans walk the streets aimlessly each day. Barks4eva is seen continoulsy headbutting a signpost repeatedly crying "farting at thunder..farting at thunder".

Stinger and Joffaboy have signed up as carlton members and scream for Juddy each week. They both have a Juddy tatoo

In closing,I don't think Cosuins would of been a good fit into our midfield when you look at it like that

Sorry mate but no.

Would like to see how many tackles Cousins has laid this year.

Bet the figure is close to the amount of women he has -

12 from 6 games? Averaging 2...it's not amazing, but its not terrible.

I find it amazing though that despite the fact we're 12-0, have an ultra impressive defensive record, an ultra impressive percentage ... why the **** would you want to change anything..

RESPECT and communication are the key ingredients St Kilda coach Ross Lyon uses to motivate his unbeaten team
Not sure Cousins has a handle on either, judging from his handling of the hair sample drug test.

If Ross was to put Cousins in ahead of those doing the work I'm not so sure he would have the groups respect, certainly not their confidence.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Look I was 1 of the few who was glad we didn't recruit Benny when all of that hit the fan...
I also didn't think we would be genuine contenders this year hence recruiting Cuz IMO didn't make sense

Sitting at 12-0 however makes me think that maybe we got it wrong. That would mean 1 more star to our midfield rotation.

Miss him, want him? Not at all.
It has been made public that the players wanted him but we know that the whole season may have been completely different if Ross had brought him in for a quick win. He challenged the players by asking why we need a guy his age to make the difference when we already have a large midfield rotation of younger players. Players who are going to be here for up to 10 years if they want.
He is a disruptive influence as well.
No thanks.
Also, Gardiners best year so far for us easily, would that have been the case with Cousins here?

???

I'm afraid the stella logic in this post escapes me....

We couldn't be travelling better and we therefore got it wrong and should have got cuz? wow....

Firstly, if cuz played with us, he takes the development of a player like geary, who has come on heaps this year and will be a player for many years to come.

Secondly, there is evidence imo that the bonding & focus in the group has been stronger becaue we didn't get cousins. There is often a 'messiah complex' with our club....that is, an outside 'star' will save us. Once it was clear we were not chasing cousins, the players challenged themselves to dig deeper within themsleves, to bring the improvement from within, rather than rely on someone from the outside.

It maybe a small factor, but these messages/themes all help focus and bond a group....and look at the way the group has stayed focused and committed this year.

Yes most teams wouldn't mind him running around their midfield right now - except for Geelong and St Kilda - they expect better.

Cousins may be a great attacking midfielder but lets see how he goes playing defensive midfield against the saints.

Finally an unbiased comment about he Cuz.

Too bad honesty is scarce on this forum.
I cannot believe people are suggesting he would be running around in someone two's on his current form. I am also loyal to the Saints decision not to take him, but this kind of talk is just nonsense IMO....

Some people are confusing the length of soft core fiction
with quality hard core fact
Richmond have been missing Richo big time this year, and throw in periods without Brown and Cousins and its obvious why they have not been that good in 09.
Not to mention the fact that due to our midfield rotation depth BC would not have felt the pressure to carry a whole side on his own back.
Would he have added something to our list? Of course.
Next people will be trying to justify why we couldnt fit Ablett in our side.

While we're at it, lets debate how well Ablett, Judd and Goodes would fit into our midfield.

People just need to get over the fact we didn't recruit Cousins and get on with the season already. Guess what, Juddy was shopping around two seasons ago and we didn't get him. Oh, but we don't debate the would haves, should haves and could haves with him as he wasn't floated around in a state of limbo in the draft with a label on his forehead saying "just someone draft me already!" Guess what, we weren't the only ones who said no to him!

Any of sixteen clubs could have taken him and it went down to one of the final picks in the pre-season draft, even then Richmond fans had to picket Tigerland for the admin to cave in and take the risk fifteen other clubs wouldn't. What happened next, this forum went into the meltdown with doom and gloom threads, the media said Cousins was the key for the Saints to launch any kind of flag challenge, Richmond supporters were doing hand-stands because finals were virtually a certainty, Sheedy said the Tigers could now win the 2009 premiership, Cousins was fifth favorite for the brownlow! To this date he has played one game where he got 28 touches and now the "Bradman of football is back".

Who knows what will happen tomorrow, Cousins may get 40+ touches and win the game off his own boot, he may get a strong tag and be limited to 9 touches, he may get 20+ but have no real influence or he may rip the hamstring off the bone and season over.

I said it before and I'll say it again, get over Cousins! We're 12-0, try enjoying that. Even if we lose tomorrow we will still be 12-1 and second on the table.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Current form? His current form isn't that great...

Sorry, but theirs not a mid in our team i'd drop for him, who would you drop?

Geary is the only play i'd consider, but in the end it still wouldn't be worth it.
