Glaring omission?

Post: # 785489Post Badlands »

I know I shouldn't get worked up over a totally meaningless survey, but is anyone else slightly offended by the options in this online survey on the HSun's website?

Who is the AFL's best full-back?

Matthew Scarlett
Craig Bolton
Tayte Pears
Scott Thompson
Brian Lake
Ben Rutten
Darren Glass
Simon Prestigiacomo

Thought the same thing myself. The most miserly defence in the history of the game & not one of our players mentioned. Oh well, I guess it indicates that we're playing as a TEAM.

Herald Sun journos are flogs.

Tayte Pears and Scott Thompson over Max? What a joke.

I'll get over it though considering we're 17-0.

Love it under the radar again - we dont have to rely on one key defender - that list says everything - we are team orientated - perfect

Max has played, what, five games this season? You can't seriously expect him to considered in the best full backs this year.

Zack Dawson, however, is another story!

If he kept his eye on the ball rather than his elbow in an opponents back I might rate him somewhere as a reasonable backman......pfffft. Thompson is a flog!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Thomson is a friggin midfielder. How can they expect us to read their crappy paper if they can't get their facts right?

I'd take Tony Liberatore over Scott Thomson as fullback any day

I thought the SS posters would be a bit more knowledgable. Scott Thompson plays for the Kangaroos and has had a great season at FB. He is in the AA mix according to one of the selectors (Gerald Healy).

as good as zac and max are and have been, its a bit hard for them to compete at the same level as some of those fbs, when we are only letting in a incredibly low amount of inside 50 entries to the opposition. This didnt really annoy me, as how many of those players can say theyre undefeated? Its a reflection of our team dominance, and we should be proud of that.

It would have to be based on this year. There is no way Max has played enough this year to be even considered. I'm very surprised Zac has been left out though as he has had a great year and if this year is looked at in isolation then he would be one of the better fullbacks when all the qualities of a FB are looked at, which is not just spoiling. If one player can't dispose of the ball then that will lose them points when being compared with others Unfortunately Max is not a great kick and against the Bulldogs his handpasses were slow - but that is probably because he is rusty (I hope)

How is Zac Dawson not on that list then?

Has conceeded the second least number of goals of any fullback in the AFL.

Essendon. Obviously only Bomber who would ever rate him as one of the best full backs.

Yeah, but according to Gerard there are approx 200 players "In the Mix" for AA selection. I've even heard that he has said that barks4eva is "In the Mix" for AA ruck duties

I already knew that there are 2 Scott Thompsons in the AFL. The Adelaide midfielder & the North defender !!

Why the discussion?

Max has only played a handful of games this year.

We have the best defense in the comp, not because of any one player, but because of the way the whole defense plays.

The Age is a sponsor of the St Kilda Football Club.

One can not expect their rivals at the Herald Sun to behave with integrity towards St Kilda.

We KNOW we have the best defence and the best full back, it just depends on who is playing there each week.

Scott Thompson has been a good defender this year but has hardly been setting the world on fire... the only Scott Thompson I can see making the AA squad would be the Adelaide superstar...

Yes that would be it for sure.
