How many years left?

Post: # 833786Post Griggsy »

For this list to be a real chance at winning?

Honestly, I give them 2 more seasons before it's just out of reach. The skills are there, we were unlucky today, had the granny been on a different day, then who knows, but it wasn't.

2 more seasons. I was never a fan of the 'window', f*** the window! But clubs with maturing lists are getting better with each season and just may be the ones to beat in 3 years. Carlton, Collingwood, Adelaide etc.

We will be every chance with the Cats, Dogs and probably the Hawks over the next couple.

Depends how badly they want to win it.

No reason why this same bunch of players can't give it another crack, imo.

Our current window IMO revolves around Lenny Hayes as he is our oldest "key" player....and will be very hard to replace.

Lynch, Heyne, Steven, Stanley, McEvoy, Geary, Armo, etc, etc...who knows what hese guys are going to bring to the team in the future. Not to mention the fact that RL is no slouch when it comes to looking at new techniques and tactics...I wouldn't base estimation purely on what we've seen this year. FFS, we were pretty unlucky not to have some new silverware today!

As long as the core isn't past it, we're a chance.

Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Fisher, Hayes, Goddard, Kosi, Montagna, Gilbert... our better players. They're good enough to build a premiership team around.

As long as they're good, we're a chance.

We just need to continue to draft/trade well to build around them and improve our list.

I sure hope Ross can turn our current crop of Youngsters to key players. GC and West Sydney coming in won't make it any easier.

After all the hype from 04-05, I have worried since 2007 that the window had shut.

The team is relatively old. But aside from Hawthorn last year, it is experienced teams that win flags. Clearly this year's team was very strong, and came very close. In terms of age I'd say we are about where Brisbane were in 2001. They made prelims in 96,99 and finals in 97 and 00, and then of course beat Essendon in 01.

9 of our 22 that played in the 04 prelim played today. 8 of Brisbane's team from the 96 prelim played in the 01 GF. Geelong 07-09 are like Essendon 99-01. Of course ideally we would have won today. But Brisbane still made the Grand Final in 02,03 and 04.

We still have time with this core of players- Roo, Lenny, Dal, Joey, Chips etc. Furthermore, we have Ross Lyon and Dave Misson. They came from Sydney. Sydney missed the finals twice from 96-08.

Chin up, all is not lost yet.

Your case of what?

While we all hope to have a crack at the GF each and every year...it is not likeky.

IMO we are well positioned to be a competitive for a while. But at present we have two elites in Lenny and Roo... wil others rise to their heights?? Maybe, maybe not.

Windows come and go..

We had one on 2004/2005

We have another in 2009-? . I would expect this to be 2009-2011. Beyond this will take someone or rather someones else to arrive as true elites.

The toughest part of losing this Grand Final is that not only do you need the list, you need to keep that list injury free, to make a grand final .

This list can make more grand finals but conditional upon staying clear of injuries.

19 points was our entire losing margin for the season, let the other teams try and catch up...

There will be a couple of key changes to the list.

IMO a couple of the players this forum sponsors will be right in the mix for the senior side.

The window thing is bulltish.

I think our "window" may just be how long we hang on to Ross Lyon.

I love your last line, how much he has impacted this club...

Pretty sure we just fell back to the same position as the rest of the comp - behind Geelong.

No-one has to catch up to us. We all have to catch up to Geelong.

Feck it.

I've never been one for the "window" theory either.

If you keep the list competitive the cream always rises to the top. Our list has a great mix of youth and experience. We're heading in the right direction!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
