Baker doubters

Post: # 834615Post Offbe »

Me thinks there are a few people on this forum who owe Bakes an apology.

He was awesome yesterday and the amount of crap that was said about him (last year and pre-season) being too old and past it was bollocks!!

No one fights and scraps likes Baker. He is a saints legend.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Well done Barrell on a great game, he certainly showed he can perform when it matters in the last 2 games.

My favourite player purely for his "never say die" character.
Not overly blessed with abundant skills or pace; but you know he's going to give you 100%...and you can't ask more than that.

A split between him and rooey on who shed the most tears...

gave his absolute everything, a complete champion.

him trying to punch the ball through will always stay in my mind.. you could see after he had hurt his shoulder as he rammed into the goal post..

Brilliant all day. Epitomised the spirit of the club, as he has done all his career.

Gotta love the guy.

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

I put my hand up. I was ready to retire him - although we have no other small defenders who are crucial in these days of smaller forwards lines.

But i was ready to retire him. After yesterday he must go on. He was just sensational. Cant speak more highly of him. Super effort. Can hold his head high.

Never write off a best and fairest winner. He has a premiership in him. The players WILL be back to get what is theirs. Baker will fight like a rabid dog.

The mighty saints will rise again and Baker will hold the Cup in the air with his tatty bandages wrapped around his grinning, bruised up head.

I was wrong as well.

Takes a great player to rise up again after a drop off in form, as was the case with bakes mid season. I've learned to write him off at my peril. Was absolutely superb yesterday. Onya Bakes.

arguably our best player in the finals.

Kept Leon Davis, Jason Akermanis and Stev Johnson Goalless . not too many players could do that in a season let alone 3 consecutive weeks.

They are the three best small/mid forwards in the afl. Game winners in BIG matches all three of them.

Has a heart bigger than himself, was terrific, but I am surprised he never broke Ablett's nose, I wish he had.

Dominated Aker (Brownlow Medalist) in the prelim

Dominated S Johnson (Norm Smith Medal Winner) in Grand Final.

Big game player is Bakes - gave 100% and was spent.

Many writ him off after his injuries/form in 2008. He proved us all wrong.

TAKE A BOW!

I dont think I ever posted that I wanted him to retire on here or BF.

But I defs thought his time was up last year.

His finals series was magnificent.

Bakes was great! Just needed a matching big-game performer down the other end (apart from roo of course) Thought Schneider was the man after what he did to us a few years ago in that prelim. Milney and Kosi sadly lack that consistency, class factor and killer instinct to bank on in a big final

He is amazingly tough
In the last quarter he dive to tap a ball through slammed into the post and got straight back up!

It wasn't just the finals. He had a fantastic year. Solid throughout. He flew under the radar a bit - not the type to attract votes normally but nor was he ever among the worst performers in any one game.

Let's hope he has got another year or two in him at that level.

Have never doubted Bakes. Our backline is stronger with Bakes in it. Bakes is a gun.
