Rd 1 2010. Who should we play? !!

Post: # 837062Post Eastern »

I would like to see a replay of the 2009 Grand Final as the season opener. It would probably have to be a Geelong Home game at Etihad Stadium or the MCG.

I believe that BOTH clubs should be rewarded with favorable FIXtures for 2010, but I bet BOTH are a long way behind Collingwood & Carlton when the FIXture comes out in about 3 weeks time !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

It will be at the MCG. Too big a crowd for it not to be considering the events of a few days ago

The AFL has opened the season with a replay of the previous years Grand Final for the last few years.
2007 Sydney V WestCoast, 2008 Port Adelaide v Geelong, 2009 Geelong v Hawthorn.
Also appears that the losing team get's to be the home team for the encounter.
If the AFL sticks by this then we will play Geelong as the home team, and to be fair should be at Etihad on the Friday night.
I for one don't want too many Friday night games because they are a pain to get to when you work in the suburbs.
Saturday and Saturday night games for me are the best.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Me too. Hard to finish work and get across the westgate in time for Friday night games. Saturday games are best for me and even sundays are easier than friday nights.
I know I'm in the minority though with most people favouring friday nights and finding sundays most inconvenient.
I guess they can never please everyone at once.

I don't see how playing a tough game against one of the best teams in recent memory is a good way to start off the season. If I had my way we would play Geelong just once in the H+A, the week before the midseason break.

I'll take Richmond in round one.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

all i can say is that we better play more then 1 game at the MCG before finals, so we dont head into a final as we did with the pies which was virtually a home game for them due to our lack of experience on the ground

Cant seee any reason why it wouldnt be a blockbuster MCG Friday night game v Geelong...just like the Hawks Gee game was last year

Id imagine Carl v Rich will kick the season off on Thurs night as they did last year

I don't see why richmond deserve that. We'd have to listen to weeks of 'we're coming' etc again

Both sides had big wraps on them coming into the season, i think the idea was to play 2 up-and-coming sides on the Thursday, then the 2 grandfinalists on the Friday.

If they do the same this year, who do you think will play in the Thursday match? Bombers maybe?

Agree it will be versus Geelong at the G.

But the worst part about that is that one of the two teams will start the season defeated.

Poor Geelong.

I would say that is the most likely scenario, but I think it would technically be our home game at the MCG, as the losing grand finallist usually "hosts" the round 1 rematch.

Can't say that I'm keen on the idea of facing them round 1 and not just because they would be a tought beat, but I would rather wait till round 10 onwards, build it up!

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.
