Saints officially in the hunt for Lovett, offer 3 yr deal!

Post: # 841785Post hotdish »

Lovett met with a St Kilda delegation of coach Ross Lyon, captain Nick Riewoldt and vice captain Lenny Hayes on Friday to attempt to convince him his best chance of playing in a premiership was to join this year's runners-up...

From the same article:

"To secure a trade for him to go to Moorabbin, the Saints are likely to have to part with their first draft pick (16) in a deal that may incorporate defender Matt Maguire heading to Windy Hill for the Bombers' second-round draft pick.

The prospects for that deal were complicated by suggestions late yesterday that the Saints retained interest in disenchanted Bulldog Andrejs Everitt. With Carlton prepared to offer its second-round pick (26) and the Dogs insisting on a pick under 20 it would appear the Saints might need to give up their first-round pick - or a player - to do the deal."

If the first trade hypothetically took place, we could actually trump Carlton (for Everitt's) services with the second pick ontraded by Essendon!

Which = Pick 16 + Goose = Lovett & Everitt!!

And that hasnt even had anything to do with the Ball trade!!

Not so keen on Maguire leaving. With Hudghton retiring I would have thought Maguire had become a required player. We don't have any matured big bodied backmen in reserve.

Hmm, not sold on the Lovett idea....I can however appreciate the fact when we play the bombers, that I would rather him in our colours!

At Essendon Lovett is always the first tagged.

At St Kilda he'll have much, much more freedom.

His work-rate is the only question mark.

Pace to burn, beautiful skills, loves a goal and is not averse to a good run-down from behind either.

Cats were very keen last season.

If he was a couple of years younger imo

If we could somehow get Lovett and Everitt i will be happy.

So if we can get Lovett and their 2nd round for Maguire and first round i will be happy

Then on trade our second to Bulldogs for Everitt

I then hope we can get something for Luke Ball and wouldnt have dont too badly

However, if we then trade our 2 2nd rounders to Fev would be even better, but losing Maguire and gaining Everitt will be ok as they are both defenders

I had to check, he's turning 27 next month. I just hope his hammies don't start going 'twang'

Lovett is a player who would fit in very well here. We need a bit of dash down a wing...

C: Lovett Hayes Gram
R: Gardiner Dal Monty

BJ (HFF) and Armo (bench) also able to rotate through regularly!

Does anyone have his efficiency rate at hard ball gets?

i seem to recall that players like Lovett make a player like Jay Neagle look good as they can can pin point a pass

Might be time for Colm Begley to take his shot!

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Glad to see, as we could so do with someone with Lovett's blistering speed and goalkicking abilities. He could make a hell of a difference to us. If we were to get him and their 2nd round pick, for our first and Goose, I reckon we'd jump at that. Especially if the Ball trade also happened. We'd need to get someone like Everitt, though, I imagine, if Goose left.
If Hawthorn are only prepared to offer their no.9 pick for Burgoyne, though, I reckon we ought to offer them our first and someone from our list, if we haven't already. Either Burgoyne or Lovett could be awesome for us.
We need to land a "big fish" from somewhere, though, if Bally goes and opens up room in our salary cap.

actually thinking about it i would actually prefer lovett over burgoyne....sure he might be a better player but moving interstate and needing time to settle in and would be way more expensive then lovett...plus he seems to be injured last few years and very inconsistent...

So how bout it.

Trade 1:
St Kilda Receive: Andrew Lovett + Selection 26
Essendon Receive: Matt Maguire + Selection 16

Trade 2:
St Kilda Receive: Andrejs Everitt
Western Bulldogs Receive: Selection 26

Trade 3a:
St Kilda Receive: Brett Peake + Selection 20 (Fre)
Collingwood Receive: Luke Ball + Selection 48 (St K)
Fremantle Receive: Leon Davis + Selection 30 (Coll)

or
Trade 3b:
St Kilda Receive: Ben McKinley
Collingwood Receive: Luke Ball
West Coast Receive: Leon Davis + Selection 30 (Coll)

Essentially for St Kilda (In case of 3a):
Receive: Andrew Lovett, Andrejs Everitt, Brett Peake, Selection 20
Discard: Matt Maguire, Luke Ball, Selection 16, Selection 48
Picks in draft: Selections 20 + 32 (We will only select two players this year hence why we can trade selection 48.)

(In case of 3b):
Receive: Andrew Lovett, Andrejs Everitt, Ben Mckinley)
Discard: Matt Maguire, Luke Ball, Selection 16)
Picks in draft: Selections 32 + 48

Hope we make a really hard play for Lovett

EXACTLY the sort of player we need. Explosive midfield speed coupled with excellent disposal and real goal sense.

I rate Spida jnr also. Work with a bloke whos known him all the way thru junior ranks..reckons hes an A grade lad with none of his brothers brainfade attributes.

Im not usually a fan of trading picks but Id lose a couple to get these 2 to the Saints

I like ur ideas Saintbot - was actually thinking about that WCE one last night... although i reckon we would get one of WCE picks, not Collingwood - McKinley is def not worth the same as Ball or Davis! But otherwise, i like it! I love it! (although i get worried about making too many list changes!) but who cares - gotta love a good hypothetical!
