"deliver the actions that get you selected"

Strong message...any guesses what these actions may include?

I am thinking a willingness to accept and play a role would be up there.

Well maybe he should look at Mark Blake.

Devastated in 2007

Runner up and devastated in 2008

Struggled to get a game in 2009 with Mumford pushing his way in. Persisted and .....

.....Premiership player in 2009

Mumford gone and his is back in favour. Did what was required for selection.

Oh no, I don't want to rival anyone...

I am a stay at home mum, who comes on here during nap times and then at night when everyone is asleep.

I had already planned to ease off now trade season is over, and I will be back for draft / preseason updates!

BTW, Milton you are averaging double my daily posts! 8-)

Is that so??

What are you putting in the kid's milk, hmmm???

Seems to be getting a lot of nap time lately,

Sadly, I'm pinned to my PC at home 12 hours a day, so SS is like an extended family - or workplace, and my only connection with the real world.

Don't bother reading papaers or watching tv. Too much work to do.

Seriously though, trade week was very addictive...I console myself that the all time record was broken today and I was not alone!

Although the Saints did not rule out Ball staying with the club, and Ball is yet to tell his management he definitely wants out, it would seem extremely difficult for the 25-year-old to stay put.

If Ball leaves, he could also nominate for the national draft in a risky attempt to find his way to Collingwood, which first pick is No. 30.

St Kilda coach Lyon said Ball still had a future at the club.

"We'll sit down ... he is a respected figure. All year we wanted to retain Luke. There was a three-year deal on the table," Lyon said.

"What Luke needs to do is go away and assess what he wants to do. There are two evident options, which are come back to St Kilda and train and deliver the actions that get you in the senior team ... or go into the pre-season draft and take your chances."

After hearing that statement, even if he had any second thoughts they would have vanished instantly. There is no way he will play for St.kilda so lets look to the future & St.kilda flag in 2010 :) (thats the first smile ive raised in 2 weeks I guess the healing process is starting to take hold)

I dont agree.

A newspaper says "it would seem unlikely he would stay" yet the coach says staying is a definate option BUT hes got some work to do.

We'll see how truly courageous Luke Ballis now - does he have the BALLS to walk back into the club, look his team mates in the eye and tell them he is as committed as they are?

THATS gotta take some courage - do you have it Luke?...

I genuinely hope he has but I think too much water has flowed under the bridge to save this marriage.

in fact Ross said he was "likely"
listen for yourselves:
http://sportal.com.au/default.aspx/medi ... trade-6576

but all for being simplistic the papers report
The casualties are many, but none more so than St Kilda's Grand Final player Luke Ball and his family.

Ball didn't get to Collingwood, yet is finished with the Saints. Melbourne beckons.

What a traumatic week for the family. His future is in limbo, teammate Matt Maguire, partner of his sister, Sophie, is in limbo, and first cousin, Josh Kennedy, has been shipped off to Sydney by Hawthorn
.

In fact there was a brief statement by the saints about an hour after trade finished- Stating they would make no further comment till ... ( missed exact) . but along the lines of they and Luke take their time

but in affect - the Saints would NOT be doing the discussion VIA the media
as has been their system for the whole year.
but the media- who had been all over 'EVERY " comment all day did not so much as note this anywhere.. because they don't like it.

but the Saints amde sure they Spoke to Bally and stressed actions taken
Lyon said Ball spoke with Saints officials for about 20 minutes before the trade deadline for an update on negotiations.

The Saints coach added he thought Ball would "obviously" be feeling frustration.

"We painted the picture of the week, what had unfolded, to make sure it was clear in his eyes what discussions had or hadn't taken place," Lyon said.

"He's a respected figure, all year we've wanted to retain Luke.

"What Luke needs to do is go away and assess what he wants todo.

I would love Luke to stay but under the cicumstances imo its almost impossible for him return after what has transpired over the last week.I seriously hope i'm wrong but I think its a long, long shot

Unless there is a 'fracture' in the relationship between Ball and his manager.

There seems to be a growing skepticism within the wider world over the actions of Connors this week.

It may be that some negative publicity aimed at Connors may allow Ball to 'save some face' and do an about turn claiming his contract negotiations were left in the hands of Connors and that they were 'mishandled' by him.

Luckily Ball hasn't actually said anything publicly to denigrate Lyon or the Saints - only Connors has done that directly, and indirectly through Greg Denham.

But to resolve this so that there is a reconciliation between Ball and the Saints it will, IMO, require movement bothe publicly adn provately by Ball.

Publicly all he needs to do is sever his relationship with Connors. The wider football world is clever enough to understand what that move means.

Dont think the position is untenable(spelling?) yet. Look at OKeefe or Lovett in the last couple of years, they have asked for trades, been shopped around and ended up staying, it hasnt effected there ability to play good footy for there respective clubs.

But none of those situations involved public comments like
'untenable position with Lyon'.

It's not that he wanted to be traded.
It's the 'leaked comments' that have damaged the situation so much.

Ball has allowed himself to be painted into a corner of not being able to work under Lyon.

The same actions as Robert Eddy - find some compromising photos of Ross Lyon.
