Are we the "IN" team these days?

Post: # 885947Post Solar »

When I was young essendon and the hawks were the sucessful sides and the dons were the "in" club for all the young people to support, espcially young girls "GO HIRDY!!"

Last friday night there were ALOT of young people supporting stkilda, especially girls. Is this just a case of older supporters kids continuing the tradition or are we the flavour of the month?

I've always thought that Essendon winning the 93 flag was hugely important in them becoming one of the biggest clubs supporter wise.

They had a lot of young people convert to them with the young side & the attractive way they played.

Thats music to my ears Solar, I SO hope you are right. And yes, a Premiership would cement them. Come on Saints.............

A friend of ours Son who is 19, thinks of us as a successful side. Can't understand why we are labelled the way we are as our bad times were so long ago it doesn't matter. I like his thinking.

Let's hope BOTH. Let's also hope the club uses this popularity to CASH IN BIG TIME. A premiership would help !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Solar, are you referring to those chickybabes sitting in front of us on Friday night? Were they even watching the game?

I must admit I have noticed in the past 2 or so years a big increase in the number of teenage girls following us.

Might have something to do with ho good our boys look

But I suppose as long as they follow us and pump some money into the club, it can't be all bad.

Your not wrong Solar. I'm in year 11 this year and over the last two years i've been shocked at how many girls have decided to take up footy as an interest, their club of choice; St Kilda.

It's a snowball effect, one girl may be a fanatic Saints fan and convince some friends to get into the footy, and naturally they will barrack for the same side.

Most girls just seem to be chosing the Saints.

If there's one good thing about turning 20 this year its the fact i'll no longer be labeled a teenie bopper supporter like the ones you are speaking of. Most of them are probably just at the game to perve at Riewoldt.. not that I can blame them, he is one fit unit.

Can only be a good thing to get new young fans.

Rather be us than the Tigers. A mate of mine who is a tiger supporter signed his new born baby boy up for tiges membership. Its child cruelty. I was tempted to report him to child services.

But apart from parents forcing it on their unknowing kids - the tiges will never get any new fans - which possibly explains why they went for cuz. but with no richo and when cuz goes they will really struggle to bring any fans under 40.

We are in.

Also helps that we have the best colours in the league. Instant attraction.

Just keep those girls away from our players.
The players may be cute and play great football but many are also dumb.

The club can do with a few decades without allegations of player conduct.

Buy the media top and wear black slacks with nice shoes......they think you're a player...carry around a bottle of water...it's fool proof..I get sick of signing autographs!

I remember from school that girls jumped on the footy bandwagon in about year 9,and it lasts until about year 11.....In the mid late 90's North and Richmond were the team to follow for these girls

They only ran away when you turned around and they saw their mistake..

It is because of our sexy colours

however, unless a women is dominant there is no point in having a young girl going for the saints!!

She may marry a Collingwood supporter and then you lose her

i have changed my GF's way of thinking, my mum was once an Essendon supporter and dad changed her...

I can see that women follow the same team as their BF... We should marry these girls and they will stay with St.Kilda forever

When I was a teen and managed to get a group of girls members we used to do that bottom pinching game. Quite fun.

Also, no man will be changing my allegiance!

Lol, it's funny that girls can get away with it so easy, if me and a few of y mates had tried it when we were 16 I don't think it would have went down so well

It works the other way too. I have converted my hubby. He never really liked footy and called himself a blues supporter, but it didn't take me long. It helped the saints were on the up and blues were on the way down at the time. Now, after 10 years together, I've signed him up as a member this year and he argues with the cats supporters at work about footy, rings me at work when he hears something interesting about the saints on the news. Never thought it would happen, but it does. Still can't get him to go to games on a regular basis, but I'm working on it.
