Dawson will most probably have the same problems against JBrown, who plays a similar type of wrestle and quick leading game to Bazza.

Unless he plays on Fev... in which case there is no obvious matchup on Brown.

Dawson has never really impressed me. He spends too much time falling over for a start. Hurry up Jesse Smith, who at 191 is same height as Max. Raph at 189 and Jimmy at 188 are probably just too short for full back. Interestingly they were playing Tommy Walsh at fullback today until injured.

Maybe Sam Fisher will have to become the permanent FB. We can't continue with Zac at FB. It's soul destroying for the kid. Maybe give him time off to bulk up and try him again later in the season.

Best backline in the comp last year.

Having a great backline and having no depth are not mutually exclusive. The test will be to see whether our great backline is as successful if we lose a key defender to injury as our depth would be tested.

Dawson ........ should have went harder tonight.
He is a big boy and could have really upset Barry but didn't..that in itself is a worry, not sure what Ross's instructions were but Zac just didn't do enough.
Forget the skills, I don't think he has many but he could at least upset his opponent due to his size.

I agree...don't see a problem with Zac at all, but thought while he was clearly worrying Baz early on, he should have kept at it. He never took a backward step, which was good to see, only lost it one out in the last 10 minutes. Pre-seasons are all about tuning up...cheer up you bunch of sad sacks.

The only problem with Zac is that he is watching the man, not the ball.

That's a very good point. Too often he's focused on his opponent and trying to body for position instead of backing himself and just focusing on the football. He needs to learn to keep his eye on the footy while feeling for his opponent at the same time.

Ture. He'll learn, especially if they keep kicking 7 goals on him! Missed Sam Fisher in the backline structure tonight too.

What was this illness? It is quite clear he is thinner than last year, unlike say Nick R or Jason Gram. What happened?

Yeah well said. Would be really pissed if Ross gave up all his game plans tonight.

Remember Saints Footy.
Forward & Mid field pressure and Zac is a God
Not a lot of pressure tonight.

Spot on. (besides the zac is a god part) It is impossible to play our saints footy agaisnt the doggies, they are too quick and we just didn't look like we wanted to be there tonight.

We were outplayer, how really cares its just nab cup. Real stuff starts in two weeks! Let see how the dogs go then. Wont be long untill barry snaps and everything falls apart for the dogs.

Just got to suck it up in the mean time, how the media reckons the dogs are suddenly awesome because they have won a few preseason games. It happens every year with one team they never win the real thing tho.

How many times did we lose to them last year again?

true, but i think because we are still a bit under done and they were cleaner with the footy than us tonight. We were St.Fumbles tonight. We just didnt look like we ever got into our game plan tonight.

Agree Simmo...I'd like to think they've peaked already, whereas our improvement areas are obvious. Tonight looked a bit like the reverse of our R17 game against the Dogs last year.

We haven't seen Saints footy yet this year. I doubt they have forgotten it. If they have, Zac will be exposed one out. Last year he was a good contributor in the best defence in the league.

Where are the Blake bashers? He was very solid tonight I thought.

I reckon Zac IS the answer.
He was fantastic almost all last year: great skills, good judgement, quite physical, good team player, and very persistent.
This pre-season, though, he's been TERRIBLE! All of the above completely missing.
It means that there must be a cause for his loss of form.

Which means there must be a cure.

The 2010 Dawson has so far been way different than the 2008 one....
