Yes!
I am keen to see Raph back in action and the fact that the club wants to play games with members is just childish. The other clubs know exactly where our players are at.

Any club that accurately details it's players niggles would have to be stupid.
nope, you're wrong.

here's why. every other club knows the injuries. they go to training, talk to people, it all gets around. they know that dempster's still wearing a moon boot. (or not, how would i know?)

the only people who don't know what's going on are the supporters.

once in a while, like in grand final week, there's a case for not disclosing much about injuries. but the week before a round two game why not tell us that miles is injured?

Lies lies lies. The club administrators should be stoned in the city square by the Saintsational faithful. We could sell tickets to the event and make a crap load of money.

nah. they should just be competent and do what's in the interest of the club, which includes fostering a sense of community and shared endeavour in the supporters.

If may let you know more..but it is often wildly inaccurate...ie I don't think Jesse will playing round two..
Raph has been playing already etc..

bergholt wrote:The official injury lies for Monday 29th March can be found here:

http://www.saints.com.au/injuries/tabid ... fault.aspx
Raphael Clarke - grade 1 hamstring, to be assessed
Robert Eddy - ankle arthroscope, to be assessed
Sam Fisher - ankle arthroscope, 3-5 weeks
Jesse Smith - ankle, to be assessed
Jack Steven - sprained mid foot, to be assessed

And here's why a supporter who takes what the club says in good faith will have a completely misleading picture of what's happening with the players they care about:

- Raph played well for Sandy on the weekend, as published in a major newspaper, so why are we still "assessing" his hamstring?

- Eddy was named emergency for the seniors and flew to Sydney with them, which seems reckless if we were still assessing his ankle.

- Dempster didn't play for Sandy but he's not named as injured so that means he's outside our best 30. Guess he'll be delisted at the end of the year.

- Winmar and Miles also didn't play for Sandy so that puts them right at the bottom of quality rankings for our senior listed players, with Leigh Fisher ahead of them. Unless one or both of them are injured.

- Rookies Simpkin, McGrath, Hutchings, Gaertner didn't play for Sandy so presumably they're all not good enough. Or maybe injured. Who knows?

What complete and utter crap from St Kilda. Why bother publishing an injury list if it's going to blatantly mislead those fans stupid enough to care about what's happening at the club?

There's no way that other clubs believe this for a second, so it's only fans who are misled. Why alienate us like that?

"There's no way that other clubs believe this for a second, so it's only fans who are misled."

What? We're stupider than AFL CLub administrators and coaching staff? Can't we ourselves choose not to be mislead?

nope.

not because we're stupider, but because clubs do it by sending spies to training and by using their extensive networks of football-connected people, like journalists, player managers, medical staff, afl staff and club staff who've shuttled between clubs in their careers.

most of us normal supporters don't have the time, energy or resources to do that. therefore we're the ones who get shafted.

i know plenty of saints supporters who don't frequent saintsational because they don't have the time or inclination. they're surprised when i tell them that there's no way dempster will play in round one because he's injured. they haven't heard anything about this. but they voraciously read everything written about the saints in the media - it's just that they don't trawl through every thread on this board to find out minor injury information.

but try telling me paul roos thought dempster was going to play in round one. not a chance!

Fair point

But I suppose the intention is not to mislead fans, but to mislead clubs. Making clubs work hard for their information is just another facet of the game.

Out of interest noted that Pies omitted Presti due to a Quad injury..but he is not on their injured list.

Interesting Bergo. Obviously you have done your homework.
Whether or not it is- as you infer-prudent for the club to go to print, it gives supporters like me some background to the espionage involved in the game. Not that anything has changed there of course.

I suspect one of tthe advantages albeit small would be making it difficult for teams to plan against us.

Sam Fisher for example - Does Collingwood plan for him to play? Do they place a tagger on him, What is there structure if he doesn't play? Who will take his role?

Knowing the exact team the questions are less - Effectively forcing teams to make plan a's and plan b's.

A small advantage - But if teams are making twice the plans - Less time is spent on the plan that will come into effect as opposed to if it was completely predictable.

Take every advantage you can - even if it is a slight one.

I agree that sometimes the club has to keep the cards close to the chest. But to constantly label everyone, even young players not even close to selection as 'to be assessed' tells me one of three things.

1. We have the slackest medical team in professional sport
2. They are for some reason on a public hospital waiting list.
3. The club is lying to everyone for no good reason.

I suspect it might be the third.

Yup. And the sub-reason is:

3a. The club's management doesn't care so there's no incentive for the medical and communications staff to bother to get it right.
